Miguel Vargas Takes Batting Practice
Miguel Vargas (oblique) took batting practice on Monday, reports Scott Merkin of MLB.com. He reportedly felt very good after the fact and is hopeful to return to the roster without a rehab assignment. The 25-year-old has been on the 10-day injured list since August 1 with an oblique strain, so it looks like he could return with missing almost the minimum amount of time. The youngster has been starting to find himself at the plate and establish himself at the big league level with everyday playing time in Chicago, tallying 13 home runs, 44 RBI, and 57 runs in 106 games.Source: Scott Merkin
Chicago White Sox third baseman Denzel Clarke Close to Return
Denzel Clarke (hip) is close to returning from the injured list, reports Jessica Kleinschmidt of Baseball America. General manager David Forst stated that he "is close to going out and playing", although he didn't clarify if a rehab assignment would be needed. Clarke has been out since July 20 with a right adductor strain. While he hit for just a .230 batting average and .274 on-base percentage, the 25-year-old did impress with three home runs, six stolen bases, and several defensive gems in 47 games so far in 2025. His defense alone should get him back into the lineup in center field once he is healthy.Source: Jessica Kleinschmidt
Athletics outfielder Shane McClanahan has Surgery, Won't Return in 2025
Shane McClanahan (triceps) had surgery on his left triceps on Monday to try and address a lingering nerve issue in his arm, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. McClanahan will now officially miss the rest of the season. "(The doctor) is not sitting there saying 'he's fixed.' That's not the case. It's, 'This is one step, and we'll see how this goes.' And hopefully we get good results. And if we don't, then let doctors decide what else is needed, if anything," manager Kevin Cash said. The 28-year-old southpaw made three minor-league rehab starts before being shut down, and what Cash had to say isn't very encouraging going into the offseason and next year. McClanahan, the former 31st overall pick in 2018 out of South Florida has not pitched in the big leagues since 2023 due to injuries, so it's fair to wonder if he can recapture his All-Star form in 2026.Source: Tampa Bay Times - Marc Topkin
Tampa Bay Rays left-hander Javier Baez Expected to See More Time in Center Field
Javier Baez is expected to see some playing time in center field along with Wenceel Perez with outfielder Matt Vierling (oblique) on the 10-day injured list. The Tigers called up Trey Sweeney from Triple-A Toledo for more infield depth up the middle. Baez indeed got the start in center in Monday's series opener against the division-rival Chicago White Sox and hit ninth in the batting order, while Zach McKinstry got the start at the 6. The 32-year-old Baez will probably move back to shortstop once Parker Meadows (quadriceps) comes back from the injured list. Baez has had an unexpected resurgent season in 2025 for the Tigers, making the All-Star team for the third time in his career. He's been versatile on defense, too, and has already played center field 37 times this year.Source: MLB.com - Jason Beck
MLB.com's Jason Beck writes that Detroit Tigers shortstop Evan Carter Could Start Rehab Assignment on Tuesday
Evan Carter (back) took live batting practice on Monday and could start a minor-league rehab assignment as early as Tuesday, according to MLB.com's Kennedi Landry. Barring a setback with his back, it's possible that Carter could rejoin the big-league team this weekend or early next week. When he returns, the 22-year-old left-handed hitter should at least be on the strong side of a platoon in center field against right-handed pitchers, moving Wyatt Langford back to left field on a daily basis. Carter is a former second-round pick and has the ability to make noise in all fantasy categories, but he's had a tough time staying on the field for long periods of time due to injuries. He has played in a career-high 55 games in 2025 and is hitting .238 (40-for-168) with four home runs, 21 RBI, 12 steals and 27 runs scored in 189 trips to the plate.Source: MLB.com - Kennedi Landry
Texas Rangers outfielder Grayson Rodriguez has Successful Elbow Surgery
Grayson Rodriguez (elbow) had successful right-elbow debridement surgery to remove a bone spur on Monday with Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas, according to Danielle Allentuck of the Baltimore Banner. Rodriguez is done for the rest of the 2025 season, but the hope is that he'll be ready to go for spring training next year. The 25-year-old will end up not pitching at all for the Orioles this season, but he's hoping to resume throwing sooner than later in order to have a pretty normal offseason heading into 2026. Rodriguez also dealt with a serious lat/shoulder injury in 2024 and basically missed half the season. The former top prospect has a 25.7% strikeout rate in his two big-league seasons of 43 starts and has teased high-end starting pitcher talent, but fantasy managers will be very hesitant due to mounting injury concerns.Source: Baltimore Banner - Danielle Allentuck
Baltimore Orioles right-hander Matt Wallner Expected to Return on Tuesday
Matt Wallner (personal) is expected to rejoin the team in the Bronx on Tuesday for their game against the New York Yankees after being away since Saturday for the birth of his child. Wallner should be a lineup regular for the Twins after they traded away plenty of players at the July 31 deadline. The 27-year-old is hitting a career-low .218 (51-for-234) with 77 strikeouts and 34 walks, but he's also recorded a career-high 16 home runs, 27 RBI and 34 runs scored in 74 games. Wallner's .233 expected batting average means he could still have a little run in him this year, but he's also in just the eighth percentile in strikeout rate. Fantasy managers are simply chasing the former first-rounder's power from the left side in the middle of Minnesota's lineup.Source: The Athletic - Dan Hayes
Minnesota Twins outfielder Carlos Narvaez Starting on Monday Against Astros
Carlos Narvaez (knee) is behind the plate and is batting ninth in Monday's series opener against the hosting Houston Astros and right-hander Cristian Javier at Daikin Park. Narvaez will return to action for the first time since last Tuesday due to a sore left knee. As long as the 26-year-old's knee issues don't crop up again, he's expected to be the primary backstop for the Red Sox the rest of the way. The Venezuelan is in his first year in Beantown and only his second in the big leagues and is hitting .248/.319/.409 with a .729 OPS, nine home runs, 33 RBI and 41 runs scored in 86 games played. Narvaez only played six games with the New York Yankees in 2024, so this is essentially his rookie season. Since the All-Star break, Narvaez has gone 5-for-45 (.111) with a homer, two RBI and 14 strikeouts in 13 games played.Source: MLB.com
Boston Red Sox catcher Marcelo Mayer Begins Baseball Activities on Monday
Marcelo Mayer (wrist) started baseball activities on Monday and is playing catch, according to Christopher Smith of MassLive. Mayer has been slow to recover from a right-wrist sprain that has kept him out since July 24, but the 22-year-old appears to be turning a corner. Still, it could be another week or two before he can rejoin the major-league roster, as the Red Sox will likely send him on a short minor-league rehab assignment first. The former fourth overall pick in 2021 made his big-league debut in 2025 and has hit .228/.272/.402 with four home runs, 10 RBI and 20 runs scored in 44 games. Mayer was previously one of Boston's top prospects and is an intresting stash in dynasty/keeper fantasy leagues, but there's no guarantee he'll see regular playing time in the final month of the season when he returns.Source: MassLive.com - Christopher Smith
Boston Red Sox rookie infielder Brady Basso Reinstated From Injured List and Optioned
Brady Basso (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list on Monday and then optioned him to Triple-A Las Vegas, according to the team. The A's also transferred catcher Austin Wynns (abdomen) to the 60-day IL, which means he won't return this season. The 27-year-old southpaw has yet to pitch in the big leagues this season after he was placed on the IL before the start of the year with a left-shoulder strain. Basso had a setback along the way and will now go back to the minors to give himself a chance to pitch for the A's down the stretch. The former 16th-round pick in 2019 out of Oklahoma State made his major-league debut in 2024 and went 1-1 with a 4.03 ERA (3.88 FIP) and 1.25 WHIP with a 19:5 K:BB in seven outings (four starts). Basso is a command artist with limited long-term fantasy value.Source: A's Communications

Michael Conforto Back on Monday Against Angels
Michael Conforto (knee) is starting in left field and batting seventh in Monday's series opener against the hosting Los Angeles Angels and right-hander Jose Soriano. Conforto was hit by a pitch on his right knee in Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays and was given a day off in Sunday's series finale as a result. The 32-year-old left-handed hitter is back in there on Monday, though, as he look to find the form he had at the plate in July. Conforto had an .827 OPS in July but has only three hits in 24 at-bats with an RBI and six strikeouts in nine games in August. He just has not been a consistent contributor for the first-place Dodgers in his first year in L.A., as he enters Monday's action hitting under .200 with nine home runs, 25 RBI and 41 runs scored in 103 games on the season.Source: MLB.com
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Jac Caglianone Beginning Rehab Assignment on Tuesday
Jac Caglianone (hamstring) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday. Caglianone was cleared for baseball activities last week, now he's ready to take the next step. The rookie slugger has been sidelined since late July due to a hamstring strain. The expectation is that he'll need a handful of games to get back into the swing of things. He should be ready to rejoin the Royals lineup by late August. Fantasy managers should check back for another update on his status later in the week.Source: Anne Rogers
Kansas City Royals first baseman Cole Ragans to Throw Bullpen Session on Tuesday
Cole Ragans (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday. This will be the first time that Ragans has thrown since landing on the injured list in early June. The expectation is that Ragans will throw a few bullpen sessions before going on a rehab assignment. The southpaw has been sidelined for quite a while, so he'll need time to build back up his pitch count and stamina. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect to see Ragans back on the mound for the Royals until September.Source: Anne Rogers
Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Oswaldo Cabrera Unlikely to Play Again in 2025
Oswaldo Cabrera (ankle) is considered a long shot to return to the field this season. There is a small window for Cabrera to return, but it remains unlikely at this point. Cabrera has been sidelined since having surgery in mid-May to repair a fractured ankle. The good news is, Cabrera has been walking around without the help of a boot or scooter. However, Cabrera hasn't advanced to any baseball activities yet. The Yankees aren't going to rush anything, so fantasy managers shouldn't count on getting anything from Cabrera for the rest of the season.Source: Gary Phillips
