Marcelo Mayer Begins Baseball Activities on Monday
Marcelo Mayer (wrist) started baseball activities on Monday and is playing catch, according to Christopher Smith of MassLive. Mayer has been slow to recover from a right-wrist sprain that has kept him out since July 24, but the 22-year-old appears to be turning a corner. Still, it could be another week or two before he can rejoin the major-league roster, as the Red Sox will likely send him on a short minor-league rehab assignment first. The former fourth overall pick in 2021 made his big-league debut in 2025 and has hit .228/.272/.402 with four home runs, 10 RBI and 20 runs scored in 44 games. Mayer was previously one of Boston's top prospects and is an intresting stash in dynasty/keeper fantasy leagues, but there's no guarantee he'll see regular playing time in the final month of the season when he returns.
