Carlos Narvaez Starting on Monday Against Astros
Carlos Narvaez (knee) is behind the plate and is batting ninth in Monday's series opener against the hosting Houston Astros and right-hander Cristian Javier at Daikin Park. Narvaez will return to action for the first time since last Tuesday due to a sore left knee. As long as the 26-year-old's knee issues don't crop up again, he's expected to be the primary backstop for the Red Sox the rest of the way. The Venezuelan is in his first year in Beantown and only his second in the big leagues and is hitting .248/.319/.409 with a .729 OPS, nine home runs, 33 RBI and 41 runs scored in 86 games played. Narvaez only played six games with the New York Yankees in 2024, so this is essentially his rookie season. Since the All-Star break, Narvaez has gone 5-for-45 (.111) with a homer, two RBI and 14 strikeouts in 13 games played.
