Jose Berrios Having Terrific Curveball Success In 2020
Jose Berrios delivered his best start of the season Thursday, reeling off six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts. Through his first six starts in 2020, he has been a seesaw fantasy option due to how hard opposing batters are mashing his fastball, in addition to how hapless they have been against his curveball. Throwing both just a tick over 30 percent of the time, the opposition has treated his fastball like batting practice with a .387 BA and .871 SLG; conversely, his curveball has produced a .094 BA and SLG with 16 strikeouts in 32 at-bats. After having been an All-Star in each of the past two years, Berrios’ Statcast metrics are trending in the wrong direction; but his next projected start comes against a Cleveland squad that he has had considerable success against since 2017 and enters play Friday with a Major League-low .202 average as a club, making him a high-upside DFS selection.
