Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 6:
Darren Waller, TE, Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins tight end Darren Waller missed the first three games of the season with a hip injury, but he has made a huge impact in the last two weeks. He had two touchdowns against the Jets in his first game after returning following a year in retirement, and he found the end zone again in Week 5 against the Panthers.
His snap count jumped from 16 (28%) in his debut to 32 (58%) in his second game back, and he should continue to get as much run as he can handle. Last year, Jonnu Smith was a productive tight end with Tua Tagovailoa, and Waller looks like he can be as he ramps up this season. Waller will help carry the load for Miami with Tyreek Hill (knee) out for the season, as Jaylen Waddle takes over the top receiver role.
Darren Waller is a fringe TE1 at this point, but if he stays healthy, it looks like he'll be able to be a solid standard-league starter in favorable matchups.
Juwan Johnson, TE, New Orleans Saints
After logging two limited practices to start the week, New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson (ankle) was a full participant on Friday and is good to go for Sunday's matchup with the Patriots, according to head coach Kellen Moore.
While Johnson has seen his target share and receptions drop dramatically over the last two weeks, the Patriots have been one of the league's worst teams at defending the tight end and have already ruled out starting safety Jaylinn Hawkins.
Johnson has a chance to repeat some of his early-season success and could be readily available on waiver wires following two disappointing performances.
Jake Tonges, TE, San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers will spend at least one more week without star tight end George Kittle (hamstring), which opens the door for backup Jake Tonges to continue being a streaming option with his team set for a plus matchup against the Tampa Bay Bucs.
The fourth-year man from Cal hasn't been an exact 1:1 replacement for Kittle's do-it-all skill set, but he's done well as a pass catcher, ranking in the top 10 among fantasy tight ends thanks to 19 receptions and three touchdowns in five weeks.
Though Tonges' workload is going to decrease as soon as Kittle comes back, Tonges tied for the team lead in targets last week. He'll carry lineup appeal into Week 6, especially in formats that play more than one tight end.
Tucker Kraft, TE, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers tight end Tucker Kraft has had a solid start to his second season as the full-time starting tight end for the Packers, but is he a bit overrated for fantasy football? In Week 4, when Jordan Love had 43 pass attempts, Kraft could only manage five targets with five receptions for 56 yards.
Kraft has been fine this season and perhaps has been propped up by his monster 6-124-1 game in Week 2. Besides that game, Kraft has averaged just four targets, three receptions, 34 yards outside of Week 2. What's additionally concerning is that his per-route metrics are starting to slide. In Week 1, Kraft earned a target on 22.2 percent of his routes run, but that percentage has slipped to 21 percent, 17 percent, and in Week 4, 13 percent. Kraft is what he is: a volatile boom-or-bust option with an inconsistent target-earning profile.
You can start Kraft in good fantasy matchups and hope he gets into the end zone in bad matchups. This week is a good matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, so Kraft is a fine start. Just know that while the ceiling is very high, Kraft's fantasy points floor is shockingly low.
Dalton Kincaid, TE, Buffalo Bills
Buffalo Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid (oblique) was officially listed as limited on the team's Thursday injury report due to an oblique injury.
The Bills will play the Atlanta Falcons in Week 6 on Monday night, so Kincaid has an extra day to recover this week. The 25-year-old has recorded 20 catches for 287 yards and three touchdowns on 24 targets through five games this season.
If he were to miss time, Bills tight ends Dawson Knox and Jackson Hawes would both likely see an uptick in snaps. Assuming Kincaid can play on Monday, he profiles as a solid fantasy TE1 in Week 6 against Atlanta.
