John Hunter Nemechek has never competed at Sonoma in the NASCAR Cup Series because the Sonoma race was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic during his only previous full-time Cup Series season in 2020. Nemechek has competed there in both the Xfinity Series and the Craftsman Truck Series, but he has never finished better than eighth or led more than one lap in either series. Road courses have not been one of Nemechek's strengths as he has only won one road course race in a national series and that came in 2016 at Mosport. He only won that race because he roughed up Cole Custer. When you consider his lack of Next Gen experience and the fact that he is starting on the last row in 37th next to his teammate, Erik Jones, even a top-20 finish might be miraculous for JHN on Sunday at Sonoma.--Sean Wrona - RotoBaller
