Fantasy Football Drop Candidates
Read about fantasy football players to consider dropping for Week 4:
Terrance Ferguson, TE, Los Angeles Rams
Los Angeles Rams second-year tight end Terrance Ferguson (ankle) is unlikely to play in the Week 4 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, head coach Sean McVay told Gary Klein of The Los Angeles Times. Fellow tight end Colby Parkinson's (shoulder) status is to be determined.
Ferguson, who has the most fantasy upside in a crowded Rams TE room, aggravated his ankle injury in Sunday night's loss to the Denver Broncos and only caught one of his two targets for nine yards. With both Ferguson and Parkinson aggravating their injuries mid-game, veteran Tyler Higbee took advantage -- star receiver Puka Nacua (groin) was also out for a second straight game -- catching eight of his 11 targets for 62 yards and a touchdown in the 30-26 loss in Denver.
Nacua could make his return this Sunday against the Eagles, but if both Ferguson and Parkinson are out, Higbee will be on the TE2 streaming radar in the Rams' high-powered offense. With Nacua out in the Week 2 victory over the New York Giants on Monday night, Ferguson stood out with six catches on nine targets for 54 yards and a touchdown. In two-TE leagues, Ferguson is a worthy stash, even if he is inactive in Week 4.
Baker Mayfield, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield (thumb) will miss "a minimum of three weeks" with a dislocated right thumb that he suffered on Sunday in the Week 3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, head coach Todd Bowles told Cameron Wolfe of the NFL Network. The Bucs will not place him on Injured Reserve as of now, and the Bucs will lean on undrafted rookie QB Jalon Daniels as the starter, beginning with a Week 4 matchup against the Green Bay Packers. Mayfield received good news from his MRI exam, as tests showed that he did not suffer a fracture or any tendon or ligament tears.
However, he is still going to miss some time over the next couple of weeks, so fantasy managers in two-QB superflex leagues are going to need to adjust. If Mayfield heals quickly and properly, he could be in play to make his return for a Week 7 divisional matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
After an injury-plagued and disappointing 2025 campaign for the 31-year-old, Mayfield is off to a bad start in 2026, going 0-3 and throwing for 615 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in his first three games. He is only worth stashing in superflex formats amid this injury.
Caleb Douglas, WR, Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley said that rookie wide receiver Caleb Douglas (ankle) is day-to-day, and he is hopeful that he can return to practice on Wednesday, according to Travis Wingfield of the team's official website. Douglas was held out of the team's Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, but if he returns to practice early in the week, he will have a shot to return this weekend against the Minnesota Vikings on the road.
The 23-year-old third-rounder from Texas Tech opened some eyes with his five-catch, 94-yard performance in the season-opening loss to the Las Vegas Raiders before he caught just two passes for 19 yards in the Week 2 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Douglas' ankle injury is not serious, and when he returns, he should continue to be involved in an offense that just lost star running back De'Von Achane (knee) for the entire season.
Douglas' impending return should be considered if fantasy managers in deeper leagues are considering adding rookie Chris Bell off waivers following his strong Week 3 performance.
Jayden Reed, WR, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said on Monday that he still has no updates on how long wide receiver Jayden Reed (neck) will be out after he suffered a serious neck injury in the Week 2 win over the New York Jets, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. Reed did not play in Thursday night's Week 3 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, and he does not seem close at all to making his way back out onto the football field for a Week 4 clash with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday.
At this point, the Packers have to be considering whether to put Reed on Injured Reserve, which would require him to miss at least four more games. Reed needed to be put on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital, where he stayed overnight, when he was injured in New York in Week 2.
Depending on the severity of his neck injury, a possibility exists that he does not make it back at all again in 2026. Christian Watson and Matthew Golden will continue to be quarterback Jordan Love's two primary receiving targets with Reed injured. Reed is only worth stashing in deeper 12+ team leagues ahead of Week 4.
Justin Herbert, QB, Los Angeles Chargers
When asked about quarterback Justin Herbert's decision-making after the team's third straight loss to start the season on Sunday on the road against the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said, "Be better," according to ESPN's Kris Rhim. Harbaugh has typically gone out of his way to defend Herbert since taking the head-coaching job in L.A. in 2023, but he is now calling the struggling signal-caller out to step up his game after the tough start. Last week, Harbaugh said he "wouldn't change a thing about Justin."
Herbert has not looked like himself in coordinator Mike McDaniel's offense through three games. He threw for 226 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception, but he could have had three if Bills defenders did not drop two of them. It is still early, but so far, Herbert is not remotely close to a potential breakout fantasy QB in McDaniel's scheme like many were hoping for.
It does not get any easier for Herbert, either, as he will face the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks and their strong defense in Week 4. Hebert is a must-sit for the short term and a viable cut candidate in shallower 10-team leagues.
