The Memorial Tournament Power Rankings: Top 10 Players To Watch

TourPicks ranks his top-10 Players to watch for at the 2025 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club Insights on the top-10 golfers for the week and reasons why they are primed to win.

The PGA Tour rolls into Muirfield Village Golf Club this week for one of the final Signature Tournaments of the 2025 season: The Memorial Tournament. The top players on the PGA Tour have made their way to Jack's Place, with the notable exception of Rory McIlroy, to compete in one of the most historic and challenging tournaments of the year.

In this article, given the historical context and data, I'll break down my Top 10 Power Rankings for players based on recent form and specific player profiles that I believe are the best fits for Muirfield Village Golf Club.  It's a tournament and venue that we have become intimately familiar with over the years, which helps us to isolate the players in the field with the highest projected probability of success.

Let’s dive right into my Top 10 Power Rankings for the 2025 Memorial Tournament:

No. 10 - Keegan Bradley

  • Despite exterior obligations with his impending Ryder Cup Captaincy Keegan Bradley has continued a high level of play and has been one of the most consistent Ballstrikers in the field.

  • Great long iron player. Bradley ranks 6th in the field in SG: Approach on longer than average golf courses.
  • Vastly improved short game, particularly on courses with long, gnarly rough around the greens like Quail Hollow featured at the PGA Championship, where Bradley gained +3.5 ARG.

No. 9 - Shane Lowry

  • Shane Lowry's biggest strength is his control OTT. He doesn't miss many fairways and Muirfield Village features some of the harshest penalties for missed fairways on the PGA Tour.

  • 5th in SG: Approach over the past 30 rounds. The irons are dialed in for Lowry.
  • T6 at this event in 2021, but seems to be in top form this season in relation to previous years. Lowry in 2nd best in the field in bogey avoidance.

No. 8 - Ludvig Aberg

  • Ludvig Aberg often elevates and putts his best on the most challenging greens. Muirfield Village fits that bill.

  • He's easily a Top-5 player in the field in terms of skill and talent off the tee box. If he can clean up his iron play, Aberg can strike at any time.
  • T5 result in his maiden appearance at The Memorial in 2024.

No. 7 - Patrick Cantlay

  • Mr. Course History. Patrick Cantlay has been dominant at Muirfield Village. Two wins and four top-4s in his career at this tournament.

  • Ranks 2nd in the field in Greens-in-regulation. His Ballstriking is back, but when will the putting prowess return?
  • Cantlay ranks in the top-5 in both SG: Total on long, difficult golf courses and specifically at Muirfield Village.

No. 6 - Viktor Hovland

  • Viktor Hovland is one of the best high-end Bentgrass putters in the field. It's easily his best green surface and he has thrived at Muirfield Village with the flat stick in the past.

  • Hovland understands the assignment that you have to do your scoring on the Par 5's at this course. He ranks 6th best in Par 5 birdie-or-better percentage.
  • He won the 2023 Memorial in a playoff against Denny McCarthy. This was really where Hovland made his first big splash win.

No. 5 - Tommy Fleetwood

  • The Memorial Tournament has jump-started many careers, with players breaking through at this event. Fleetwood has seemingly been next in line for a while now. Will it finally be his week?
  • Best in the field in SG: Around the Green. His chipping and scrambling when he misses the green has been exceptional all season.
  • 4th place last week at the Charles Schwab Challenge. He keeps knocking on the door and someday it has to get answered. I like Fleetwood's chances this week.

No. 4 - Justin Thomas

  • Justin Thomas has been strangely inconsistent from week to week, but when he gets cooking, he catches fire. He leads the PGA Tour in birdies per round this season.
  • In the last five weeks, Thomas has a win and a 2nd place finish at the Truist Championship, but the missed cut at the PGA Championship still feels fresh.
  • He's had a streaky but good putter, which is what you want to see when betting a guy to win this tournament. The spike weeks have been there for Thomas

No. 3 - Collin Morikawa

  • The bottom line is that Collin Morikawa rarely misses fairways. It's a massive advantage at this golf course to play from the short grass.

  • The approach play has been rock-solid as always, but some of his past struggles with the short game have begun to rear their head lately.
  • Morikawa has a great history here, including the year it was played in back-to-back weeks for the Workday Tournament. He's a nearly perfect course fit.

No. 2 - Xander Schauffele

  • Xander Schauffele's moniker of being a top-15 machine is only further accentuated at Muirfield Village. You can pretty much pencil him in for a late tee time on Sunday.

  • He finally got the Driver figured out at Quail Hollow where he gained +5.6 strokes OTT in his last tournament played.
  • When a golf course in longer than average and features difficult scoring conditions, Schauffele is always a good bet. He ranks No. 2 in the field in strokes gained with those filters on.

No. 1 - Scottie Scheffler

  • The defending Champion will likely, once again, be a massive favorite to win the golf tournament despite being one the strongest fields of the season.
  • Unsurprisingly, he excels at Muirfield Village, ranking 1st in strokes gained total at this course.
  • Over the past 36 rounds played, Scheffler ranks No. 1 in SG: OTT AND SG: APP. It's almost unheard of to be the best in both categories. This is a BAD man in GOOD form and we're very likely looking at another Scheffler week on the PGA Tour.

Enjoy the Memorial Tournament, and thanks for reading! Good luck, RotoBaller family!
