ANALYSIS: The Denver Broncos added to their running back room by selecting UCF product RJ Harvey in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Throughout most of the offseason, Harvey was the lone option on the depth chart, which suggested the team views him as their workhorse.
However, shortly before training camp, the Broncos added to their running back room and brought in veteran J.K. Dobbins on a one-year contract. Despite being signed later in the offseason, Dobbins was a very effective rusher last season, accumulating a career-best 905 yards and nine touchdowns.
Throughout training camp, both running backs have seen time with the first team. However, in their final pre-season game against the Saints, Harvey was given the game's first carry and played exclusively with the first team for the entire match, further solidifying his role.
While the veteran Dobbins will likely take a sizable amount of work, especially early in the season, Harvey will likely lead the team in carries by the end of the season. Facing a weak Tennessee defense in their season opener makes Harvey a strong flex option in all standard leagues. If the Broncos opt to lean on him heavily in this game, he would enter Week 2 as a bona fide RB2.
