Vince Velasquez Lands On Injured List
3 years agoThe Chicago White Sox placed starting pitcher Vince Velasquez (groin) on the 15-day injured list on Friday with a left groin strain. The move is retroactive to May 31. Velasquez was scheduled to start the series opener on Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays, but that assignment will now go to Davis Martin, who was called up from Triple-A Charlotte. Once Velasquez returns from the injured list, there's a good chance he'll be in a relief role. The 29-year-old right-hander has been inconsistent in eight outings (seven starts) for the White Sox, allowing 21 earned runs on 36 hits while striking out 33 and walking 14 in 35 2/3 innings. Martin, 25, performed well in his first major league start on May 17, giving up one run while fanning seven and walking one in five innings against the Kansas City Royals.
