Victor Scott II Projected To Start In The Minors
9 months agoEven with outfielders Lars Nootbaar (ribs) and Tommy Edman (wrist) starting the year on the injured list, The Athletic's Katie Woo projects St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Victor Scott II to be left off the Opening Day roster out of camp. Scott has had an excellent spring training and has proved to be a dynamic player as the organization's best center fielder. He's able to impact the game far beyond his defense, with his speed and baserunning being a real threat. However, Nootbaar isn't expected to miss much time, and president of baseball operations John Mozeliak has a preference to promote top prospects only if there is clear everyday playing time. Alec Burleson and Dylan Carlson have also had strong offensive springs and Brendan Donovan is healthy. Scott is the team's No. 4 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and should surface in the big leagues at some point in 2024.
