Cade Horton Goes on 15-Day Injured List With Fractured Rib
Cade Horton (rib) on the 15-day injured list with a fractured right rib, retroactive to Sept. 25. The team recalled left-hander Jordan Wicks from Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move. Horton exited what proved to be his final regular-season start on Sept. 23 with back soreness, and manager Craig Counsell said an MRI revealed "areas of concern" in his rib area. It wasn't regarded as a serious injury, but it worsened after Horton played catch on Saturday. The Cubs will now go without Horton for at least one playoff round, which is a significant hit after the 24-year-old rookie put together a stellar regular season. Horton finished 11-4 with a 2.67 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP, 97 strikeouts, and 33 walks over 22 starts and 118 innings. Without Horton, the Cubs figure to start Matthew Boyd, Shota Imanaga, and either Jameson Taillon or Colin Rea in their best-of-three wild-card series against the San Diego Padres.
