Brett Baty Lands on 10-Day Injured List With Oblique Strain
Brett Baty (oblique) on the 10-day injured list with a strained right oblique and recalled infielder Jared Young from Triple-A Syracuse. Baty's IL placement doesn't come as a surprise after he injured his oblique during a 6-2 loss to the Miami Marlins on Friday. Manager Carlos Mendoza admitted afterward that it could end Baty's regular season. While Baty might be able to return from the IL sometime in October, it'll be a moot point if the Mets don't overtake the Cincinnati Reds for the NL's last wild-card spot this weekend and then advance in the playoffs. The Mets have collapsed over the past couple of months, but Baty slashed a superb .313/.375/.504 between the start of August and the end of his season. He'll wrap up the campaign with a .254/.313/.435 line, 18 homers, 50 RBI, 53 runs scored, and eight stolen bases in 130 games and 432 plate appearances. Defensively, Baty spent most of 2025 splitting time at third base with Mark Vientos. The Mets started Ronny Mauricio at the hot corner on Saturday.
