Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom (hip) is feeling optimistic that he can return to the ice for the 2022-23 NHL season. The Swedish veteran had resurfacing surgery on his left hip in the summer after featuring in just 53 total games during the 2021-22 campaign. "I'm going to start off by saying I'm pain-free," said Backstrom on Thursday. "No more pain that I had before. I'm feeling good. I'm in the gym working out, doing my rehab. So far, so good. I'm very optimistic that I'm going to play before the season ends." Backstrom played two seasons through hip pain and still managed to compile 84 points in 102 regular season games. A healthy Backstrom will be a great asset for the Capitals and fantasy managers alike, although it remains to be seen when exactly he'll be able to make his return.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
