Carson Wentz To Start Over Taylor Heinicke In Week 17
2 years agoWashington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera has decided that quarterback Carson Wentz will start in Week 17 against the Cleveland Browns, according to sources. Taylor Heinicke will head back to the bench. Wentz broke his right ring finger in October and lost the starting job to Heinicke when he returned from Injured Reserve, but the Commanders are now 7-7-1 and are in danger of missing the playoffs if they continue to lose. Wentz started the first six games before getting hurt, completing 62.1 percent of his 232 attempts for 1,489 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions for a QB rating of 84.1. The 29-year-old hasn't looked much better than Heinicke in 2022 and should be considered a low-end QB2 for those in superflex leagues. The return of Wentz should be good news for rookie receiver Jahan Dotson, who developed strong chemistry with Wentz over the summer.
