Week 4 Quarterback Rankings Outlooks
Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert heads into a Week 4 road game, fresh off a hard-fought 23-20 victory over the Denver Broncos, where he completed 28 of 47 passes for 300 yards, one touchdown, and his first interception. Herbert now faces the 0-3 New York Giants, who have a strong front four but a vulnerable secondary.
While veteran guard Mekhi Becton (concussion) will miss the game, leaving some vulnerable spots on the offensive line's strong side, the Chargers' offense has gained balance with an improved run game, giving Herbert plenty of options to move the ball downfield.
Herbert played confidently in clutch moments last week, and RotoBaller ranks him as QB5 for this week. Fantasy managers should consider Herbert a top-five QB to start with confidence moving forward.
Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield (right biceps) will be listed as questionable for Sunday's heavyweight battle with the defending-champion Eagles, according to head coach Todd Bowles. However, Bowles told reporters during his Friday press conference that Mayfield, Chris Godwin (ankle), and Tristan Wirfs (knee) are all trending in the right direction for Week 4.
While the Buccaneers have yet to release their final injury report of the week, Mayfield was seen throwing before Friday's practice, and all signs indicate that he will be available on Sunday.
Mayfield's 6-to-0 touchdown-to-interception ratio through three weeks trails only two-time MVP Lamar Jackson, and his trademark grittiness has defined the team's identity on their way to a 3-0 start. With Mike Evans (hamstring) already ruled out for Sunday, look for Mayfield to build upon his quickly established rapport with rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka.
Geno Smith, Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Geno Smith enters Week 4 with a strong opportunity to post QB1 numbers against the struggling Chicago Bears defense. Chicago has allowed 247.7 passing yards per game while ranking 27th in total defense and 26th against the pass, creating an inviting matchup for fantasy managers.
Smith is coming off a sharp performance in Week 3, where he threw for 289 yards and three touchdowns, showing clear chemistry with his receiving corps. With the Bears' secondary routinely giving up big plays, Smith carries both a safe floor and a sneaky-high ceiling this week. He should be started confidently as a low-end QB1 in all fantasy formats.
Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
After bouncing back in Week 3 against the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is set up for success going into Sunday's home matchup versus the 0-3 New Orleans Saints.
The reigning MVP will face a defense that has surrendered the seventh-most fantasy points to quarterbacks, even though the Saints haven't gone up against anyone in Allen's stratosphere. They've instead struggled against lesser signal-callers in Kyler Murray, Mac Jones, and Sam Darnold.
Those three combined to complete 70.8 percent of passes with seven touchdown tosses, zero interceptions, and a lofty 118.9 QB rating. While Jones and Darnold don't scare anyone with their legs, the mobile Murray scampered for 38 yards on seven rushes against New Orleans. That's good news for Allen, an elite dual-threat fantasy managers can confidently count on going into Week 4.
Drake Maye, New England Patriots
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has performed well this season, but he'll face a tough test against the Carolina Panthers in Week 4. While Carolina isn't commonly viewed as a dominant team, their defense has been quite strong this year, especially against quarterbacks. In full, the Panthers have allowed the third-most interceptions, the fewest passing touchdowns, and the fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks in 205.
They have also allowed zero rushing touchdowns to the position, but on the flip side, they've registered just one sack. With all that being said, Maye himself has been solid, ranking as the overall QB7 so far while rushing for 87 yards.
He isn't immune to ugly football -- last week, he had two costly turnovers in a loss to the Steelers -- but for the most part, he has looked quite impressive while making massive strides in his second pro season. RotoBaller's experts aren't worried about Maye's tough matchup, ranking him as the overall QB6 heading into Sunday's Week 4 contest.
Jaxson Dart, New York Giants
New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart enters his first career NFL start as an intriguing but risky fantasy option at home against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4. The Chargers present a difficult test, boasting the league's top-ranked red zone defense (25% TD rate) while allowing the 11th-fewest fantasy points (14.21 FPPG) to opposing quarterbacks through the first three weeks.
However, Los Angeles has been susceptible through the air, surrendering the second-most passing yards per game (270), which could create opportunities for the rookie after a sharp preseason where he posted a 113.1 passer rating without an interception. Ultimately, Dart's fantasy value is significantly buoyed by his aggressive rushing style, demonstrated by his 52 yards and a touchdown in the preseason, establishing a solid floor that makes him a viable QB2 this week.
Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has played quite well this season and should continue to rank as a mid-to-low fantasy QB2 for this week's matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
Stafford has 739 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions so far, ranking 17th among quarterbacks in fantasy points. His productivity has been aided by big plays from star receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams (hamstring). He should pick up right where he left off this weekend, despite a matchup against the 3-0 Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts have played quite well so far, but two of their three games have been against winless teams, and their third was against a 1-2 Broncos squad. The Rams are easily the toughest team the Colts have faced, and Stafford should be able to find some success through the air.
A lack of rushing prowess limits Stafford's upside, but he's still a must-start in two-quarterback leagues. RotoBaller's experts have the veteran ranked as the overall QB18 this week.
