Fantasy Baseball Week 10 Injury Report - Updates on Bryce Harper, Mookie Betts, Yordan Alvarez, Shota Imanaga, Anthony Santander, Logan Gilbert, more

Dave Funnell's Fantasy Baseball Week 10 Injury Report - Updates on Bryce Harper, Mookie Betts, Yordan Alvarez, Anthony Santander, and more

Welcome, RotoBallers, to my fantasy baseball injury report for June 1. Every week, we look back at the major injury developments in baseball and look ahead at what might transpire. Today, we examine recent injuries and updates for Bryce Harper, Mookie Betts, Yordan Alvarez, Anthony Santander, and more

Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game, but how you handle them can mean the difference between a last-place finish and somewhere near the top of your league's standings.

The hope is that whatever comes your way, you can understand what the injury is, what it means for your fantasy team, and what actions you should take. Let's get right to this week's injury-related news.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball draft tools and resources:

Bryce Harper - 1B, Philadelphia Phillies

This was what we heard from Bryce Harper on Friday, when he was asked about the state of his elbow. Earlier in the week, he got hit by an errant pitch directly on his surgically-repaired elbow. He was immediately replaced in that game and hasn't played since then. At first, the worry level was minimal, as both he and the team didn't believe it was a serious issue.

However, time has passed, and four games later, he has yet to return.

He was seen taking groundballs yesterday, but was seen throwing the ball very gingerly. Yesterday, swung a bat, but it's unclear if he will have to go on the injured list. If there's anyone who can avoid extended time off, it's Harper, as his body has undergone bumps and bruises throughout the years.

While he has been on the injured list before, he's also known as one of the toughest players, having played through various injuries.

It's unclear when he makes his return. He remained sidelined on Sunday. However, he's already discussing plans to change his approach at the plate and to his arsenal. He's acknowledged that an elbow guard might need to be worn to help protect this long-standing injury.

It's something that he finds difficult wearing at times, and that could hinder his offensive production. He did say that he won't back down at the plate, which is great considering how aggressive he can be. However, he did acknowledge that because pitchers throw so hard these days, it's difficult to maintain that aggressiveness.

Whatever the case may be, and whenever we see Harper return, we may see a different version of him. Could his power production falter? Might we see an uptick in groundballs? It's unclear at the moment, but it's something to keep an eye on nonetheless.

Here's what else is happening around the world of injuries.

MLB Injury News Quick Hits

Mookie Betts has a fractured toe, and his return is dependent on his tolerance for pain. He doesn't expect to be gone for long, but it's been revealed that he will not play at all this weekend. This is something to monitor, as a trip to the injured list is possible.

Kirby Yates is one of many pitchers on the Dodgers to go down with an injury, and his return could be soon. He just recently threw from a mound and hasn't felt any issues with his ailing hamstring for a while. He will likely need a rehab assignment, but since he's a reliever, it won't be as long as a starter's would be.

Yordan Alvarez took live batting practice on Friday and felt discomfort in his hand. It was revealed that he had a small fracture in his hand and that the healing process was about 60% complete.

The frustrating part is that he had been swinging a bat and taking batting practice for weeks now with an unknown fracture in his hand. It's unclear whether it has worsened over time or if this is something that occurred during the inflammation cooling process.

Either way, this is the second year in a row where a mysterious injury has hampered one of Houston's best players to the point where the team had trouble identifying it.

After the Blue Jays placed Anthony Santander on the 10-day injured list with shoulder inflammation, he also received an MRI to help diagnose the issue. The team is currently unclear about his condition, as the inflammation remains continuous and steady. He may also receive a cortisone shot, which would be used to help reduce the inflammation and get him back into the lineup sooner.

Sean Manaea, who has been injured for the entirety of the 2025 season, is aiming to begin a rehab assignment soon. A reminder that his oblique issue started when pitchers and catchers reported, and that he suffered a setback when trying to return. As such, his return will be slow-played.

Paul Blackburn will make his 2025 debut this Monday against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. While he's worth rostering in deep leagues, he remains a stash even when he's activated. It's never a good idea to start a pitcher in their first start after an extended absence, regardless of the opponent, and playing at Los Angeles is not ideal.

If you've waited this long for him to return, one more week won't hurt.

The Tigers placed Jackson Jobe on the 15-day injured list this week with a Grade 1 flexor strain. These injuries typically take under a month to heal, and given how valuable he is to the organization, we may not see Jobe again until after the All-Star Break, unless they need him.

Nathan Eovaldi was pulled from his last start with triceps soreness and was placed on the 15-day injured list on Sunday.

Eovaldi has an extensive injury history affecting numerous body parts, and his health has always been his Achilles' heel. The talent is undeniable, but his health is usually questionable.

Logan Gilbert could be back in the Mariners' rotation by June 10, if all goes well. He's up to 45 pitches in his rehab assignment and continues to impress. The team is taking things slowly, as predicted, but that's normal, given how valuable he is to their success.

Ryan Mountcastle went to the 10-day injured list yesterday with a hamstring strain. The severity of the issue wasn't revealed, but it was obviously enough to warrant time away from the team. One has to wonder if this is Coby Mayo's final shot to prove that he can be of value to the Orioles either on the field or via trade.

Shota Imanaga has now thrown two bullpens, the latest being yesterday. There is no timetable for a return, though he will move his rehab to Arizona this upcoming week.

Justin Verlander will have his next start delayed, which means that Kyle Harrison will get another chance to pitch as a starter. Buyer beware, though. The Giants have a difficult stretch of games, and neither of these pitchers has optimal opportunities to succeed.
