Fantasy Baseball Injury Report - Week 11 Updates on Pablo Lopez, Bryce Harper, Corbin Burnes, Julio Rodriguez, George Kirby, Logan Gilbert, and more

Pablo Lopez - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, MLB Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Dave Funnell's Fantasy Baseball Week 11 Injury Report - updates on Pablo Lopez, Bryce Harper, Corbin Burnes, Julio Rodriguez, George Kirby, Logan Gilbert, and more.

Welcome, RotoBallers, to my fantasy baseball injury report for June 8. Every week, we look back at the major injury developments in baseball and look ahead at what might transpire. Today, we examine recent injuries and updates for Pablo Lopez, Bryce Harper, Corbin Burnes, Julio Rodriguez, George Kirby, Logan Gilbert, and more.

Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game, but how you handle them can mean the difference between a last-place finish and somewhere near the top of your league's standings.

The hope is that whatever comes your way, you can understand what the injury is, what it means for your fantasy team, and what actions you should take. Let's get right to this week's injury-related news.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Pablo Lopez - SP, Minnesota Twins

The news in Minnesota this week was far from good, as the team's ace will likely miss most, if not all, of the season for the Twins. The fact that it is of the Grade 2 variety represents that it is pretty severe, more so than it would be if it were mild.

As it stands, he has been shut down for four weeks from throwing. From there, he will slowly be built back up, only if he is cleared to do so. It's far from a guarantee that he pitches again for the Twins, though manager Rocco Baldelli is confident he will.

Lopez is no stranger to having major shoulder injuries. As a member of the Marlins, he twice suffered major season-ending injuries that cost him an immense amount of time.

While it hasn't happened in quite some time, it was something to be expected from Lopez at one point, making him a risk to draft because of injuries. This is the latest reminder that injuries can happen at any time, even after years of sustainability and durability.

What does this mean for the Twins? After also losing Zebby Matthews to the injured list, the team is looking at an uphill battle. Its rotation currently sits with Joe Ryan as the SP1, followed by David Festa, Bailey Ober, and Chris Paddack. On paper, it looks passable, but digging deeper, there's some vulnerability.

What if Ryan reinjures himself like last season? Is Festa capable of holding up due to their inexperience? Can Ober take that next step forward? Is Paddack's health enough to last over time? A lot of questions with not many answers could make the next little while a boom-or-bust time frame for the Twins. It will be interesting to see how things go from here.

MLB Injury News Quick Hits

The Phillies placed Bryce Harper on the injured list with wrist inflammation on Saturday. This is a concerning development, as discussed in this column last week, as we could see other injuries and body parts being overcompensated to help with an ailing elbow. It's unclear exactly what caused this injury, but it's noteworthy that it occurred so soon after being hit on the elbow with a pitch.

Corbin Burnes will have Tommy John surgery this upcoming week. He will miss the remainder of this season and likely most of next season as he recovers from this major injury. A reminder that the timeline for this operation is anywhere from 12-18 months, and that players returning tend to have difficulty with their command upon re-entry to the mound. It's unfortunate here, as his stock in dynasty leagues has taken a massive hit.

The Diamondbacks also had a scare with Gabriel Moreno, as he was hit by a pitch on his hand and had to leave the game early. His status is unknown, but he did miss Saturday's game after coming into the clubhouse with a wrap on his hand. Consider him day-to-day for now.

The Orioles will lose Ryan Mountcastle for a long time, as he has suffered a significant injury to his hamstring.

In his absence, expect Coby Mayo and Ryan O'Hearn to split duties at first base. This will be a great opportunity for Mayo to prove his worth to the Orioles and demonstrate that they were correct in keeping him, rather than trading him away for a proven pitcher. If he doesn't do it now, it's fair to worry if he ever will do it in Baltimore. He is worth adding for the potential upside, but with O'Hearn in the way, anything is possible.

The Mariners will give Logan Gilbert at least one more rehab start, as his last outing saw him get to 60 pitches. The expectation here will be a build-up of at least 75 pitches, with the hope that he will be ready by this time next weekend.

George Kirby has been cleared to start today's game at the Angels. He will look to bounce back after some shaky outings and took a pitch off his face his last time out. For anyone worried about his production thus far, it's worth noting that he didn't have himself a spring training, so he may be a little rusty. If your league mates are worried about his production moving forward, he is worth buying low on.

Seattle has hopefully avoided a disastrous situation after seeing Julio Rodriguez get hit on the ankle by an errant line drive in last night's game. He had to be helped off the field, as the ball hit directly on the bone between his ankle and foot. He was taken away for X-rays, but everything came back negative. While he did play in Sunday's game, there's a chance for some lingering effects here.

The Dodgers have lost another starter as Tony Gonsolin was placed on the injured list with right elbow discomfort. With him being on the injured list and their other ailing starters not close to a return, it's unclear how the team will fix this situation moving forward. Ben Casparius has been outstanding as a bulk reliever to start some games, but it's unclear if he can hold up as a viable option all season long. Needless to say, this puts the defending champions in a tough spot.

Ryan Weathers was hit in the head by an errant throw after warming up on Saturday, and the outcome of his day was not his best. He was pulled after three innings of work, was getting examined yesterday after showing diminished velocity, and was also seen holding his left arm.

The details are murky, but there's a chance that he suffered either a significant injury or there are issues with his head that need to be addressed.

Anthony Volpe was initially in yesterday's lineup for the Yankees, but patience and an abundance of caution played a part in Aaron Boone's decision to leave him until another day. It was said that the shortstop still had some swelling in his elbow despite negative X-rays and CT scans a day before. The hope is that he will be back today.

Giancarlo Stanton will be traveling with the team this week, and he might be starting a rehab assignment soon. Great news for the Yankees, as he has been getting a lot of simulated at-bats with the team. It will be interesting to see how his body adjusts and adapts.
