When will Travis Hunter return and play? Will Travis Hunter be back again this season? Read the latest Travis Hunter injury updates and return date for Week 10 (2025).
One of the biggest debates coming into the 2025 fantasy football season was what to do with 2025 first-round pick Travis Hunter. Hunter was a true unicorn athlete, entering the NFL as a high-level wide receiver and cornerback.
On one hand, Hunter’s dynamism with the ball in his hands was evident at Colorado. On the other hand, we had no idea how he was going to be used on offense and defense or how he would slot in with 2024 rookie sensation Brian Thomas Jr. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury just as he was starting to gain momentum.
When will Travis Hunter return to the field? Can he be trusted in fantasy once he’s back? Read below to find out.

Travis Hunter Injury Update
Things looked to be turning a corner for Travis Hunter in Week 8. Hunter went into the Jaguars’ bye week coming off his best game of the season, catching eight of 14 targets for 101 yards and a touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams. Hunter posted a season-high 87% snap share on offense. Hunter was the WR52 in fantasy points per game (9.1), but had a season-high 24.1 points (WR9) in that game.
Coming out of Jacksonville’s bye week, reports indicated that the Jaguars were going to make a focused effort to get Hunter more involved on offense after the strong showing. Unfortunately, Hunter suffered a non-contact knee injury during the Jaguars’ Wednesday practice ahead of Week 9’s game. Hunter was called a limited participant the next day, but quickly landed on injured reserve.
There was immediate concern about Hunter’s injury and availability going forward. Interviews with head coach Liam Coen hinted that the team wasn’t sure that Hunter would be able to return in 2025.
Thankfully, good news has come out since. Hunter has gone from potentially missing the remainder of his rookie season to potentially returning once his mandatory four-game injured reserve absence ends.
Travis Hunter is not expected to be out long-term for the #Jaguars, though he is out at least 3 more games. He'll be back to contribute in the pass game, as well. https://t.co/niqwp7VhGk

It appears that Hunter could potentially be available for the fantasy playoffs as long as he doesn’t suffer any setbacks.
Travis Hunter Fantasy Outlook
Fantasy managers who drafted Travis Hunter have not gotten what they bargained for. Hunter has struggled to make a consistent impact this season, trying to balance playing cornerback and wide receiver at the NFL level. When things finally started to turn, he suffered his injury.
Thankfully, tests have indicated that the injury to Hunter is not expected to knock him out for the season. Unfortunately, he also won’t be able to return to the field until Week 13 at the earliest,t thanks to injured reserve rules.
When Hunter was injured, we finally saw the flashes that made him the Heisman winner in college and the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Hunter’s explosiveness and ability to make plays after the catch were on full display against the Rams.

Fantasy managers who have Hunter stashed on the injured reserve or bench should hold him as long as they can. Hunter’s talent is evident, and the Jaguars seemed committed to integrating him more into the offense before he got hurt.
On the other hand, when Hunter returns, he will not only be competing with Brian Thomas Jr. at wide receiver, but also with newly acquired wide receiver Jakobi Meyers. The passing attack has gotten more crowded. That could lead to Hunter taking on a bigger role on defense, where there is less talent.
If you are a fantasy manager who is navigating injuries and bye weeks and in need of fantasy points, it is fair to draft Hunter since his impact won’t be felt on your fantasy team until the playoffs begin. He should be treated as a boom-or-bust WR3 upon his return until we see what his role looks like.
