With the injury bug already hitting several star NFL quarterbacks, fantasy football managers have been racing to the waiver wire in hopes of finding a new starter. Luckily, there are plenty of good quarterbacks available on the waiver wire, as there's typically no need to roster a backup quarterback in fantasy football.
In this piece, we will look at two entrenched veteran starters and a backup who has been thrust into the starting lineup due to an injury.
Are Matthew Stafford, Geno Smith, and Marcus Mariota worth adding off the waiver wire in Week 4? Here are the latest outlooks on each for fantasy football.

Matthew Stafford Week 4 Waiver Wire Pickups
Rostered: 38% of Leagues
Baller Move: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
Stafford's offseason back issues don't appear to have slowed him in the slightest, and he's enjoyed a good start to 2025. Stafford is a much better NFL quarterback than a fantasy quarterback due to his nonexistent mobility. However, he's still a startable option in the right matchup.
So far this season, Stafford has averaged 14.9 fantasy points per game, which places him at QB17. However, he's faced two of the NFL's stingiest defenses in the Houston Texans and Philadelphia Eagles, so that figure should improve as Stafford begins to face worse defenses.
It also doesn't hurt that he gets to throw the ball to one of the league's best wide receiver duos. Stafford and Puka Nacua are among the league's best QB-WR pairings, and Davante Adams has already established chemistry with the veteran passer.

Stafford is a good option this week at home against the Colts.
Geno Smith Week 4 Waiver Wire Pickups
Rostered: 10% of Leagues
Baller Move: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
In his first two games as a starter for Las Vegas, Smith struggled to protect the football, throwing an interception in Week 1 and three in Week 2. However, by avoiding turnovers in Week 3, he set himself up for a monster fantasy day. Smith threw for 289 yards and three touchdowns in a loss to the Commanders in Washington.
And while Smith benefited from garbage time, that doesn't hurt for fantasy purposes.
He's got some good options in the passing game with TE Brock Bowers and WRs Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker. And if Ashton Jeanty continues to struggle and the Raiders continue to fall behind in games, Smith's passing volume alone will lead to some monster fantasy games.
Smith is a high-risk, high-reward pickup due to his propensity for risky downfield throws. Some weeks, he'll make you feel like a genius, and in others, he'll have you tearing your hair out.
There’s a reason why Geno Smith was traded for pocket change this offseason.

Marcus Mariota Week 4 Waiver Wire Pickups
Rostered: 7% of Leagues
Baller Move: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
After Jayden Daniels suffered a knee sprain in Week 2, Mariota took over as the starter in Week 3 and had a solid performance. In a game that the Commanders dominated in all three phases, Mariota passed for 207 yards and a score while running for 40 yards and another score. It is now evident that Mariota can succeed in this offense, but how much longer will he be at the helm?
Daniels avoided an MCL sprain, which would have caused him to miss a minimum of two games. But should the Commanders err on the side of caution, Mariota will start again in Week 4 at the Falcons.

The Falcons' defense has been up-and-down so far this season, so Mariota could be in for another solid fantasy day.
