2025 Truist Championship Power Rankings: Top 10 Players To Watch

TourPicks ranks his top-10 Teams to watch for at the 2025 Truist Championship, held this year at the Philadelphia Cricket Club on the Wissahickon Course. Insights on the top-10 golfers for the week and reasons why they are primed to win.

When Quail Hollow was announced to host the PGA Championship, the Truist Championship committee was in search of a new host venue for 2025. Insert the Philadelphia Cricket Club and the Tillinghast-designed Wissahickon Course, set to host this newly anointed Signature Event and many of the best players in the world.

In this article, I'll do my best to break down my Top 10 Power Rankings for players based on recent form and specific player profiles that I believe are the best fit for the Wissahickon Course. The course has been tipped-out and rerouted to accommodate the crowds and infrastructure that comes along with hosting a PGA Tour event.

Let’s dive into my Top 10 Power Rankings for the 2025 Truist Championship:

No. 10 - Shane Lowry

• The approach play has been exceptional. Lowry ranks Top-5 in SG: Approach overall and on short golf courses over the last 36 rounds.

• Tricky greens and severe runoffs will require scrambling ability around the greens. Lowry ranks 14th overall in the field in SG: ARG.
• Checks the box for incoming form. Lowry has finished inside the Top-20 in five of his last six starts.

No. 9 - Daniel Berger

• Berger has been so well-rounded this year, gaining strokes in every major category in 2025.

• He's had success playing in the Northeast and ranks Top-10 in SG: Total at TPC River Highlands which I believe makes the best course comp.
• Great total Driver. Berger hits it plenty far and should be able to keep it out of the fescue, which borders the rough-cut.

No. 8 - Tommy Fleetwood

• High floor and reliable Ball Striker. Fleetwood has gained strokes Ballstriking in eight straight events.

• Problematic in the outright market historically, but I still feel like it has to be only a matter of time before a player of his skill level breaks through.
• Bent grass is his worst putting surface, but he'll give himself plenty of good chances with his exceptional approach play from inside 150 yards.

No. 7 - Viktor Hovland

• His offseason work to improve consistency with his irons has paid off. Hovland has gained strokes on Approach in seven consecutive starts.

• Missed three cuts in a row in March, but has bounced back with a win, T21, and T13 in his last three tournaments.
• Top-5 in SG: Putting on pure bent grass greens, the predominant strain in the Northeast, where Hovland has been terrific.

No. 6 - Russell Henley

• With the Wissahickon Course expected to play just over 7,100, a shorter layout that demands accuracy is the preferred setup for Henley.

• Ranks 3rd in the field in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 100-150 yards, an increased expected range this week.
• Great putter and savvy around the greens. Henley has won and three top-eight finishes in his last five starts.

No. 5 - Ludwig Aberg

• Tillinghast courses can often be dissected with elite OTT game. Aberg is one of the best in the field at separating from his competition off the tee box.
• Bent grass has proven to be Aberg's best putting surface by a wide margin early in his career.
• His swing got a little loose after his victory earlier this season. Two weeks off, and hopefully, he has cleaned things up a bit because Aberg is a near-perfect course fit for here.

No. 4 - Xander Schauffele

• He's close...very close. The iron play is back but Schauffele is still awaiting a hot putter. Once it comes, he'll threaten to win again.
• T8 finish at The Masters was his best performance this season. He followed that up with a T18 at Harbour Town the following week.
• He needs a hot start on Thursday to boost his confidence. He's trending and has some of the hottest irons in the field this week. The putts will eventually drop.

No. 3 - Collin Morikawa

• His first start since the caddie change to Joe Greiner, Morikawa is searching for an answer to getting back in the winner's circle.

• Morikawa ranks 2nd in SG: Approach over the past 36 rounds. The iron play is dialed in, and he will need it this week.
• Underrated OTT. Morikawa ranks 6th in the field in SG: OTT and tends to elevate his ranking on courses that reward accuracy.

No. 2 - Justin Thomas

• Won in his last start at the RBC Heritage where Thomas gained 11 strokes on the field on a similar length golf course.

• Thomas arrives with a hot putter. He's gained at least one stroke putting in four straight tournaments and was one of the leaders in putting in 2 of his last 3 starts.
• Confidence is key, and he'll be playing with less pressure as he was finally able to get the "win" money off his back. If anyone can go toe-to-toe with McIlroy right now, it feels like Thomas is the guy.

No. 1 - Rory McIlroy

• McIlroy was able to relinquish any potential post-Masters rust at the Zurich and he should be freed up and ready to attack the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
• We've seen Northeast Tillinghast courses be dominated OTT, like DeChambeau at Winged Foot and Koepka at Bethpage. McIlroy is far and away the best in the field OTT both short and long term.
• McIlroy has proven he can win on both short and long golf courses. His course management this season has vastly improved, and he's the hottest player in the world. A clear cut #1 in this weeks rankings and it wasn't particularly close.
