Welcome back RotoBallers, Week 4 has arrived, and it's time for another rankings check-in. Below is another edition of Nick Mariano's updated 2023 fantasy baseball rankings and tiers for roto leagues (5x5 mixed leagues) as of April 19, 2023. These rankings are being released in mid-April and are looking at rest-of-season fantasy baseball rankings and player values for the rest of this MLB season from this point forward.

Some significant injuries have happened recently, causing a major shakeup in the latest rest-of-season rankings. Tampa Bay Rays left-hander Jeffrey Springs (elbow) is expected to undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the rest of the season. New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) will be sidelined for six weeks with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain. Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) was diagnosed with a sub-scapular strain in his right shoulder and placed on the 15-day injured list. Along with injuries, there were some prominent call-ups recently, with New York Mets third baseman Brett Baty, Los Angeles shortstop Zach Neto, Minnesota Twins' second baseman Edouard Julien, and Tampa Bay Rays' right-hander Taj Bradley all getting a promotion to the big leagues. Baty and Bradley cracked the top-300 list this time around.

Some players are off to a terrific start, while some have struggled mightily to start the year. Which of these starts do we take seriously, and which do we put less stock into? Is it time to elevate our expectations on certain players and elevate touted prospects into a higher tier for fantasy baseball leagues? How much patience must we show for highly-touted players who have struggled out of the gate, especially veterans with proven track records? Hopefully, the rankings below will give you some perspective on our thoughts on these topics and help you assess the strength of your rosters going forward. Let's see where players such as Alek Manoah, Brett Baty, Taj Bradley, Max Muncy, Luis Arreaez, and Joey Meneses rank, all of who are off to interesting starts in 2023.

These rankings will be updated every week throughout the season, so some of these situations are very fluid. It's not panic time yet, and we may not be ready to elevate hot-starting players into the elite yet, but it's certainly a good checkpoint for the long fantasy season.
