Even though the 2026 campaign is just getting started, several rookies have emerged as league-winners, such as Parker Messick and Sal Stewart. Messick went undrafted in most leagues but has become a must-start pitcher, and being able to identify the next breakout prospect could be the difference between you winning or losing your league.

In this piece, we will spotlight three prospects that are worth closely monitoring ahead of the next week of the fantasy baseball campaign.

Robby Snelling, SP, Miami Marlins

2026 AAA Stats: 19 IP, 1.89 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 31 SO, 9 BB

Through his first four starts of the season down in Triple-A, Robby Snelling has shown that he's ready for his shot in the majors with the Miami Marlins. Snelling has posted a stellar 1.89 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, .138 BAA, and a 41,9% strikeout rate in 19 innings so far, and his last two starts have yielded a combined 11 shutout innings and 21 strikeouts.

Outside of an underwhelming 2024 season, Snelling dominated in 2023 and bounced back in a big way last season to reclaim his spot as one of the top left-handed pitching prospects in the game. While he might not have ace upside like Chase Burns or Nolan McLean, Snelling has solid SP2 upside and should join the Miami rotation sooner rather than later.

The duo of Chris Paddack and Janson Junk isn't going to hold him back for much longer.

Ryan Waldschmidt, OF, Arizona Diamondbacks

Current Level: AAA

2026 AAA Stats: 22 G, .337/.455/.554, 2 HR, 4 SB

On our next stop, we visit the deserts of Nevada, where speedster Ryan Waldschmidt has come out of the gate hot and is building off his 2025 breakout campaign. Between High-A and Double-A last season, the 23-year-old slashed  .289/.419/.473 with 18 home runs and 29 stolen bases over 134 games. What really made that performance stand out, though, was his approach.

He struck out just 17.6% of the time while walking at an elite 16.0% clip. That same approach has carried over to Triple-A with the Reno Aces in 2026.

Another aspect of his game is his power. Even though he's only hit a couple of home runs so far, he has posted a 9.6% barrel rate and a 110.1 mph max exit velocity.  Here is a breakdown of his Triple-A performance from a Statcast perspective.

Even though the Diamondbacks’ outfield isn’t wide open, there are cracks. Corbin Carroll is obviously locked into an everyday role, but Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is returning from a knee injury, so he may not play every day. Also, with Jordan Lawlar sidelined by a fractured wrist, the final outfield spot is up for grabs. So far, Jorge Barrosa, Alek Thomas, and Tim Tawa have been filling in, but they are not the long-term answer.

Barrosa holds a 65 wRC+ while Thomas and Tawa both have a 1 WRC+ across a combined 77 plate appearances. Waldschmidt would be a clear upgrade over these three, and if he keeps hitting like this, it’s going to be hard to keep him down much longer. Once he is called up, he will be worth a look in 12-team, five-outfielder leagues, especially if you need speed.

Trey Yesavage, SP, Toronto Blue Jays

Current Level: AAA (on the injured list)
Availability: 65% rostered
2026 MLB Stats: 14 IP, 3.21 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 16 SO, 7 BB

I didn't include Trey Yesavage in previous weeks as I thought of him more as an injury stash, but that still counts, right? He's still a top prospect, and one you absolutely should have stashed if he's for some reason available in your fantasy league(s).

When it comes to stats, I urge you to take Yesavage's rehab stint numbers with a grain of salt and remember how dominant Yesavage was in 2025. That wasn't a fluke. Yesavage recorded a 3.12 ERA in 98 minor league innings before posting a 3.46 ERA in 41 2/3 combined major league innings between the regular season and the postseason.

Once he's back in the next week or two, Trey Yesavage could easily post top-40 SP value over the remainder of the season.
