Wikelman Gonzalez Headed to Major Leagues
Wikelman Gonzalez to the major leagues. Gonzalez was acquired in the trade that sent left-hander Garrett Crochet to the Boston Red Sox in the winter. Gonzalez is currently considered the No. 16-ranked prospect in the system on MLB.com. The right-hander opened the campaign with Double-A but only needed to log 16 1/3 innings to prove he was ready to join Triple-A Charlotte. With Double-A, Gonzalez struck out 21 batters and held a 4.41 ERA. At Triple-A, Gonzalez posted an impressive 2.75 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP across 19 2/3 innings of relief. During this stretch, Gonzalez struck out 18 batters but allowed a high 15 walks. Fantasy managers should expect the 23-year-old to begin his MLB career with a low-leverage role in the Chicago bullpen.
