Riley Patterson Will Fill In at Kicker vs. the Colts
Riley Patterson will take the place of an injured Jason Sanders (hip) as the team's starting kicker in Week 1 against the Colts. The journeyman is suiting up for his sixth team in the last three seasons after stints with the Browns, Jets, Jaguars, Falcons, and Lions. He was signed to the practice squad and is expected to be elevated for kicking duties in Week 1. He'll be kicking on his 26th birthday on Sunday, and the veteran is 63-for-74 (85%) on field goal attempts in his career and has made 109 of his 113 extra-point attempts. He is the K22 this week in RotoBaller's rankings, making him nothing more than a one-week desperation fill-in for fantasy until he secures a more permanent role. He is kicking indoors in a decent matchup, though, so he isn't the worst option as a one-week patch.

Andy Borregales Not a Reliable Kicking Option Ahead of NFL Debut
Andy Borregales will make his NFL debut this Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, but he's not a reliable fantasy football option at this time. In addition to the fact that Borregales has never attempted a regular-season kick in the NFL, he also starts his career in a Gillette Stadium environment that could be dealing with light rain and wind on Sunday. Furthermore, while the Patriots' offense is trending upward, they lack the type of firepower that would essentially guarantee Borregales has multiple scoring opportunities every game. For now, the University of Miami product ranks near the bottom of the fantasy kicker rankings.

Spencer Shrader a Low-End Option in Week 1
Spencer Shrader will open the year against the Miami Dolphins at home in Week 1. Shrader takes over for Matt Gay, whom the Colts released back in April, with the team indicating that their belief in Shrader was part of the reason they made the move. The Dolphins were generous to opposing kickers last year as they allowed the fifth-most fantasy points per game to the position. That being said, it remains to be seen just how well the Colts are able to move the ball with Daniel Jones under center.

Joey Slye a Low-End Streamer for Week 1
Joey Slye should generate some interest as a low-end fantasy streamer ahead of his Week 1 matchup with the Denver Broncos. While Denver has a good defense, Slye stands to benefit because the Titans' offense could be more likely to stall out in scoring position, leading to field goal opportunities. Additionally, the veteran kicker has a very strong leg, converting from as long as 63 yards out last season with the Patriots. His kicking power could translate nicely to this week's matchup, as the thin altitude at Mile High Stadium is a kicker's best friend. While we'd prefer a highly dependable kicker in a high-powered offense, managers looking for last-minute replacements should be content with the idea of streaming Slye this week.

Jake Moody An Unreliable Week 1 Option
Jake Moody's 2024 season should have fantasy managers looking elsewhere to fill the position on their rosters to start the season this weekend. Moody converted 24 of his 34 field goal attempts last year, giving him the second-worst conversion rate (70.6%) among kickers with at least 20 tries in 2024. Moody did put on a good show in the preseason, concentrated in the 49ers meeting with the Raiders, when he went 5-for-6, including a 59-yarder as time expired. Moody is a volatile option at an already volatile position and should be avoided until he can provide more stable results.

Graham Gano Looks To Rebound in 2025
Graham Gano is a difficult fantasy start for Week 1, given his recent injury history and the unknown offensive output of the team. Gano has missed significant time over the last two seasons due to injury and saw his field goal percentage drop to 73.25% over the past two seasons. While he did show a positive sign by making both of his 50+ yard attempts, his overall inconsistency is a major concern. The Giants' offense is expected to be a work in progress with a new quarterback, which could limit scoring opportunities. While the Commanders' defense wasn't particularly stingy against kickers last year, Gano's recent struggles make him a high-risk, low-reward option to start the season.

Younghoe Koo Ranks Just Inside the Top 12 for Week 1
Younghoe Koo had a rough 2024, converting just 73.5 percent of his field goal attempts last season before missing the final three games with a hip injury. However, the 31-year-old comes into 2025 healthy and made four of five field goals in the preseason, with his only miss coming from 51 yards out. With the Falcons having an implied total of 23 in their Week 1 contest against the Buccaneers, there is expected to be a decent amount of scoring. The fact that the game is a home matchup inside the dome in Atlanta means Koo will not have to deal with the elements, providing him with a pristine kicking environment. The eighth-year pro ranks as a low-end, top 12 option for Sunday's matchup, although his upside is limited given this will only be Michael Penix Jr.'s fourth start of his career, so drives may stall quickly.

Ka'imi Fairbairn Begins the Season as a Strong Kicker Play
Ka'imi Fairbairn and the Texans take on the Rams in Week 1, giving Fairbairn a boost since he's playing indoors at SoFi Stadium. Last year, he connected on 36 field goals in 42 attempts, the second-highest season total in his eight-year career. He set a new career best with an impressive 13 field goals from 50+ yards, with a long of 59 yards. He also added 34 extra points in 36 attempts. The Rams ranked in the middle of the pack against kickers last season, while Fairbairn ranked sixth among kickers in standard scoring. He's also the No. 6 kicker in RotoBaller's rankings for Week 1, making the 31-year-old from UCLA an excellent play in normal formats to start the season.

Tyler Loop a Mid-Level Option in First Career Game
Tyler Loop has big shoes to fill in his first season after being drafted with the 186th overall pick this year. Despite the shaky last season and shady off-field allegations, the Ravens were used to one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history with Justin Tucker. Loop showed some impressive leg strength throughout training camp and the preseason, and he should get plenty of opportunities with the way this offense can move the ball. Another aspect in his favor is that head coach John Harbaugh is a former special teams coach who knows when to put trust in his guys. Loop's ADP was in the middle of the pack for his position, but he has the highest Week 1 projection in RotoBaller's rankings with 8.9 fantasy points against the Buffalo Bills.

Andre Szmyt a Low-End Option in Week 1
Andre Szmyt will open the 2025 season with a home game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1. In a bit of a surprise, Szmyt won the starting kicker job over Dustin Hopkins, who had been Cleveland's kicker the past two seasons and had signed a three-year, $15.9 million extension ahead of the 2024 season. Szmyt will now go up against a Cincinnati defense that allowed just the 26th-most fantasy points per game to opposing kickers last season. The 26-year-old sets up as a low-end fantasy option heading into Week 1.

Chris Boswell Looks To Build Off Career Year in Week 1
Chris Boswell will hope to build upon a stellar 2024 campaign when he opens the season against the New York Jets in Week 1. While there isn't expected to be an abundance of points scored in Sunday's contest, it's worth noting that New York surrendered the third-most fantasy points to opposing kickers last year. If Pittsburgh's offense struggles to finish drives in quarterback Aaron Rodgers' debut, Boswell could be called upon early and often. It's not the most appealing spot to start a kicker, but fantasy managers could do much worse than Boswell in Week 1.

Daniel Carlson's Fantasy Value Hinges on Raiders' Offensive Growth
Daniel Carlson enters the 2025 season in the middle tier of fantasy options after two straight years of declining accuracy. Once considered one of the league's most reliable legs, Carlson now finds himself tied to an offense that remains more potential than production. His Week 1 matchup against the Patriots does little to boost his outlook, as New England's defense should keep scoring opportunities limited. Until the Raiders prove they can sustain drives and finish possessions consistently, Carlson is best left on the waiver wire. For now, he's a low-end streaming option without dependable week-to-week fantasy value.

Brandon McManus In The Streaming Kicker Conversation For Week 1
Brandon McManus looks to bring his 2024 momentum into 2025 as the Packers welcome the Detroit Lions to Lambeau Field for Week 1. McManus, the recipient of a three-year contract extension in the offseason, was excellent last season for Green Bay. Missing just one field goal and making all his extra point attempts from his debut in Week 7 to the end of the season, McManus stabilized the kicking in Green Bay for the foreseeable future. The Packers in 2025 return most of the same core players on offense, and then added first-round wide receiver Matthew Golden, who could be the missing explosive piece of their offense. McManus could flirt with being a startable fantasy kicker in many leagues in 2025. Right now, for Week 1, he's on the outskirts of startable range for kickers, but in a game against the Lions that could see some offensive firepower, you can do much worse than starting McManus.

Jake Bates Faces Tough Road Matchup in Week 1
Jake Bates had a breakout season as a rookie in 2024, nailing 26 of his 29 field goal attempts and converting a league-high 64 extra-point attempts. The 26-year-old will face a tough road environment in Week 1 at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers. Last year, Bates made 13 field goals both at home and on the road, but he made 14 more extra points in the friendly confines of Detroit's domed Ford Field. The weather is not expected to be an issue in Green Bay on Sunday, but it's still an additional variable to consider. More importantly, the Lions averaged 30.8 points per game on the road last season, compared to 35.3 at home. The over/under for Week 1 is 47.5, so the betting markets are expecting a solid number of points to be scored between the two teams. Bates is a starting-caliber kicker in fantasy this week who should be expected to provide top-12 production.

Tyler Bass Placed on Injured Reserve
Tyler Bass (groin) was placed on the injured reserve on Friday. Bass has been dealing with a lingering groin issue throughout training camp. He was only able to practice in a limited capacity once throughout the whole week leading up to Week 1. The Bills have decided to place Bass on the IR which means he'll miss the first four weeks of the regular season. That being said, Matt Prater will take over as the active roster for the Week 1 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. The Bills offense is strong enough to make Prater an attractive streaming option while Bass is out.
