Clarke Schmidt Has Internal-Brace Procedure, Expected Back in 2026
Clarke Schmidt (elbow) underwent season-ending elbow surgery earlier this month, but it was not a full Tommy John procedure. Rather, Schmidt had internal-brace surgery and should miss less time as a result, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. The 29-year-old's estimated timeline to return is 11 to 13 months, meaning he could factor into the Yankees' rotation in the second half of 2026. Schmidt ended the 2025 campaign 4-4 with a 3.32 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, and 73:30 K:BB in 78 2/3 innings. The Yankees have had difficulty replacing Schmidt and are on the hunt for rotation help with Thursday's trade deadline looming.Source: Bryan Hoch - MLB.com
New York Yankees right-hander X-Rays Negative on Eugenio Suarez After Hit by Pitch
Eugenio Suarez (finger) appears to have avoided a major injury after leaving a loss to the Detroit Tigers early on Monday. Suarez told reporters after the game that X-rays on his right index finger came back negative, and he'll undergo further testing on Tuesday. The two-time All-Star exited in the ninth inning after Tigers closer Will Vest hit him in the hand with a 95.6 mph fastball. It didn't look good, but it seems that the Diamondbacks and fantasy managers can breathe a sigh of relief. The same goes for teams that are interested in acquiring Suarez before Thursday's trade deadline.Source: Steve Gilbert - MLB.com
Updating a previous report, Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Nick Fortes Heading to Tampa Bay
Nick Fortes from the Miami Marlins for outfield prospect Matthew Etzel, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Fortes will replace Danny Jansen, whom the Rays traded to the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday. This isn't a needle-moving deal from a fantasy perspective, as the defense-first Fortes hasn't produced much offense since he debuted in 2021. The 28-year-old is a career .225/.277/.344 hitter over 1,073 plate appearances. Fortes has racked up 141 trips to the plate this season and batted .240/.288/.439 with two homers, 10 RBI, and 11 runs scored.Source: Mark Feinsand

Kyle Higashioka Still Out on Monday
Kyle Higashioka (hamstring) will miss his fifth straight game Monday as he continues dealing with a hamstring strain. Jonah Heim will start behind the plate and hit ninth against Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jack Kochanowicz. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy told reporters that Higashioka should return to the starting lineup Tuesday. After popping a career-high 17 home runs a year ago, Higashioka has totaled just four in 196 plate appearances this season. The 35-year-old has hit .253/.301/.368 with 25 RBI, 16 runs scored, and three stolen bases.Source: Andres Soto - MLB.com
Texas Rangers catcher Yoan Moncada Out Again on Monday
Yoan Moncada (hand) is not in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Texas Rangers. Kevin Newman will fill in for Moncada at third base and bat ninth versus Rangers ace Jacob deGrom. Moncada hasn't played since he left a loss to the Seattle Mariners on Saturday after taking a pitch off the hand. X-rays came back negative, but the Angels are playing it safe with Moncada. The 30-year-old is a trade candidate whose time with the Angels could be running out with the deadline coming up on Thursday. Moncada has only played in 42 games this year, but he has reportedly drawn interest from contending teams.Source: MLB.com
Los Angeles Angels third baseman Eugenio Suarez Exits After Hit By Pitch
Eugenio Suarez (hand) left a 5-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers in the ninth inning on Monday after taking a pitch off the right hand. The Diamondbacks replaced Suarez, who was in obvious pain, with Blaze Alexander after Tigers closer Will Vest hit him with a 95.6 mph fastball. If this is a serious injury, it could have major ramifications on Thursday's trade deadline. Suarez is considered the best hitter who could end up on the move in the coming days, but a trade may not come together if he has to miss a significant amount of time. From a fantasy standpoint, the 34-year-old would be an enormous loss for managers. Suarez has been one of the game's elite power hitters this season, having slashed .248/.321/.577 with 36 homers, 87 RBI, and 64 runs scored in 433 plate appearances. UPDATE: Manager Torey Lovullo said Suarez will go for X-rays, and the D-backs are calling him day-to-day for now.Source: Jeff Passan
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Tyler Guyton Out 4-6 Weeks With Bone Fracture
Dak Prescott and the rest of Dallas' offense. The 24-year-old former first-rounder is expected to have a bigger role on Prescott's blind side going into his sophomore season after playing in 15 games (11 starts) as a rookie in 2024.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys offensive tackle Tyler Guyton (knee) has been diagnosed with a bone fracture in his knee and will miss four to six weeks, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The Cowboys believed that Guyton suffered a torn ACL in Monday's training camp practice, but an MRI exam revealed that his ligament was intact. Guyton might still miss the start of the 2025 regular season, but he should be able to return at some point and will avoid having knee surgery. It's great news for quarterback Tyler Bass Dealing With Pelvis Injury
Tyler Bass (pelvis) is dealing with a pelvis injury that kept him sidelined at training camp practice on Monday, according to Bills beat writer Maddy Glab. It doesn't appear to be a serious injury for Bass, so he should be back in action at camp in a couple of days. The 28-year-old has been good but not great for fantasy purposes in his five seasons as the Bills' kicker. Bass went 24-for-29 on field-goal tries and 59-for-64 on his extra points in 2024 in 17 regular-season games. He has made anywhere from 24 to 28 field goals in all five of his seasons in Buffalo. Bass is in one of the best offenses in the league, but the Bills have been so efficient at punching it into the end zone that his fantasy ceiling has remained low. Still, if you wait at the position in fantasy drafts, you could do much worse than Bass as a low-end starting option in 12-team leagues.Source: BuffaloBills.com - Maddy Glab
Buffalo Bills kicker Rashawn Slater Returns to Practice on Monday
Justin Herbert's blind side yet again. Slater missed two games early in 2024 due to a pectoral injury but was otherwise excellent. His presence on the left side of the O-line is definitely a big bonus for Herbert.Source: ESPN.com - Kris Rhim
Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Rashawn Slater (foot) said he had a blister on his right foot ahead of training camp that had to be "carved out," which is what kept him from practicing early on. However, Slater was in uniform and did individual drills on Monday. He is expecting to do more on Tuesday. The 26-year-old is back on the field after signing a four-year, $114 million contract extension on Sunday that made him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the league. The former first-rounder and two-time Pro Bowler should be 100 percent healthy by the start of the regular season and will be protecting quarterback Tyler Guyton Feared to Have Suffered Torn ACL
Dak Prescott's blind side.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
Dallas Cowboys starting offensive tackle Tyler Guyton (knee) was injured in training camp practice on Monday and is feared to have torn his ACL heading into his MRI exam, sources tell NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The Cowboys have a pretty strong offensive line, but this will be a pretty big blow to the unit before the start of the regular season. Guyton was selected with the 29th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft and went on to play in 15 games (11 starts) for the Cowboys in his first season. The 24-year-old was expected to take on an expanded starting role in his second NFL season, but now he won't be ready to play again until 2026. With Guyton now out for the entire 2025 season, Asim Richards could be asked to step into an expanded role on quarterback David Walker to Miss Rookie Season After Suffering Torn ACL
Source: ESPN.com
Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie fourth-round edge rusher David Walker (knee) will miss his entire first year in the NFL after suffering a torn ACL in training camp practice on Friday, according to head coach Todd Bowles. "He was making a big impact early," Bowles said. "Obviously, we were counting on him doing a lot of things, but other guys are going to have to step up. I told him he has to look at this like a redshirt year. It's unfortunate. It didn't look like it was too much on film, but it ended up being that." Walker was expected to serve in a depth role in his first year in the league behind starting outside linebackers Haason Reddick and Yaya Diaby. The 25-year-old will now look to begin a long and grueling rehab and hopefully be ready for training camp next summer.Roman Anthony Expected to Hit Leadoff Going Forward
Roman Anthony is expected to serve as the team's leadoff man going forward, according to manager Alex Cora. Anthony is in the leadoff spot for the second straight day in Monday's series opener against the Minnesota Twins and right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson at Target Field. It will surely raise the fantasy ceiling of the top prospect in baseball in the month two months of the regular season. The 21-year-old former second-rounder in 2022 hasn't really done anything to raise eyebrows in his first 40 big-league games, as he's gone 36-for-135 (.267) with two home runs, 16 RBI, 22 runs scored and two steals. However, Anthony has picked things up in July and is batting .315 (23-for-73) with a homer, 10 RBI and a steal in 21 games during the month. Jarren Duran has dropped down to the three-hole with Anthony in the leadoff spot.Source: MassLive.com - Chris Cotillo
Boston Red Sox rookie outfielder Jacob Wilson Out for Series Opener Against Mariners
Jacob Wilson (hand) remains out of action for the A's for Monday's series opener against the division-rival Seattle Mariners in Sacramento. Max Schuemann will start at shortstop and bat eighth against Mariners right-hander Luis Castillo. Wilson is dealing with a bruised hand and is considered day-to-day, so he could return as soon as Game 2 of the series at Sutter Health Park on Tuesday. The 23-year-old former sixth overall pick has been playing through his hand injury for a few weeks now and could be a big reason why he's hit just .140 (7-for-50) with a homer and five RBI in 13 games in the month of July. Wilson, who was a first-time All-Star in 2025, is still hitting a robust .312 (115-for-369) on the year with his short, contact-oriented stroke, but fantasy managers will want to expect more regression going forward.Source: MLB.com
Athletics rookie shortstop Kyle Stowers Scratched on Monday Due to Illness
Kyle Stowers (illness) has been scratched from Monday's series opener at Busch Stadium against the hosting St. Louis Cardinals due to an illness, according to Christina De Nicola of MLB.com. Heriberto Hernandez will take over for Stowers in left field and will hit cleanup against Cardinals right-hander Andre Pallante. Fantasy managers will need to remove Stowers from their starting lineups and check back on Tuesday to see if he's feeling good enough to return to the lineup. The 27-year-old former second-round pick by the Baltimore Orioles in 2019 out of Stanford has been one of the better breakout position players in 2025, as he's currently hitting .299 (100-for-335) with 23 home runs, 63 RBI, 52 runs and five stolen bases. Hopefully, Stowers returns to action for Game 2 of the series in St. Louis on Tuesday.Source: MLB.com - Christina De Nicola
Miami Marlins outfielder Michael King Throwing Three-Inning Simulated Game
Michael King (shoulder) is expected to throw three "innings" during a simulated game on Monday at Petco Park before the series opener against the New York Mets that he is treating as normal as possible in terms of a start day, according to Annie Heilbrunn. King is getting his arm stretched out after not pitching since May 18 due to a pinched thoracic nerve in his shoulder. The 30-year-old veteran is getting close to going on a minor-league rehab assignment, and barring any setbacks, he's expected to return to San Diego's starting rotation sometime in August. When he's fully healthy, King has been an ace for the Friars' pitching staff, so his return would be a big boost. Before going on the injured list, King had gone 4-2 with a 2.59 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 64 strikeouts and 17 walks in 55 2/3 innings over his 10 starts.Source: Annie Heilbrunn
San Diego Padres right-hander William Contreras in Danger of Missing Rest of the Season?
William Contreras (finger) is starting behind the plate and is batting third in Monday's divisional showdown against the visiting Chicago Cubs and left-hander Matthew Boyd. However, Contreras is dealing with a finger injury, and the Brewers have said that if he were to land on the injured list, it would be for season-ending surgery. Uh oh. That's not what fantasy managers want to hear, and it's why the Brewers acquired catcher Danny Jansen from the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday. A serious finger injury could help explain why the 27-year-old Venezuelan backstop has been such a disappointment in 2025. Through 368 at-bats, Contreras is slashing .242/.342/.340 with a below-average .682 OPS, six homers, 42 RBI, 50 runs and five steals. He hasn't gone deep since June 14.Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Curt Hogg
Milwaukee Brewers catcher Kris Bubic Done for the Season
Kris Bubic (shoulder) will miss the rest of the regular season, according to manager Matt Quatraro. Bubic was placed on the 15-day injured list after being diagnosed with a left rotator cuff strain on Sunday. Sadly, there isn't enough time for Bubic to heal up and return to the mound this season. He'll end his terrific season with a 2.55 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and a 116/39 K/BB ratio across 20 starts. The Royals believe Bubic will be fine in time for the beginning of next season. The Royals haven't announced who is going to take over the spot in the starting rotation.Source: Anne Rogers
Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Danny Jansen Traded to Brewers
Danny Jansen was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday. In exchange, the Rays will receive infielder Jadher Areinamo from Milwaukee. Areinamo is ranked No. 24 in the Brewers farm system, so not a bad deal for Jansen who is on an expiring deal. This deal gives the Brewers more depth behind William Contreras behind the plate. Jansen is slashing .204/.314/.389 with 11 home runs and 29 RBI across 79 games with the Rays this season. He figures to see increased time behind the plate with Contreras banged up right now. Jansen isn't a great hitter, but a viable option behind the plate, so the Brewers can give Contreras more time at designated hitter.Source: Jeff Passan
Tampa Bay Rays catcher Robert Jones Expected to Miss 2-3 Months
Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
Dallas Cowboys offensive guard Robert Jones (neck) who had been working with the starting offense early in training camp, is expected to miss two to three months after breaking a bone in his neck during practice on Sunday, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. It's a tough break for the 26-year-old heading into his first season with the Cowboys. Jones spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Miami Dolphins and started all 17 regular-season games for the Fish in 2024 at left guard. He signed a one-year deal with the Cowboys in the offseason that can earn him up to $4.75 million. Before getting injured, Jones was getting a serious chance at earning the starting duties at right guard to help replace Zack Martin, who retired this offseason.Jed Hoyer Receives Extension From Cubs
Source: Taylor McGregor
The Chicago Cubs have agreed on a multi-year extension with president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer on Monday. The exact details of the deal weren't announced, but Hoyer was in his final year of his five-year deal before signing this new contract. Hoyer joined the organization in 2011 under then president of baseball operations Theo Epstein. The two of them helped build the team that won the World Series in 2016. Epstein decided to step down from his role after the 2020 season. Hoyer took over after that and will be in Chicago for the foreseeable future.Max Muncy Starting Rehab Assignment on Tuesday
Max Muncy (knee) is scheduled to begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday. Muncy has been making great progress from his bone bruise he suffered in early July. The Dodgers haven't given a timetable for when Muncy will be able to return. The assumption is that he'll need a handful of games before returning to the Dodgers lineup. Barring any setbacks, Muncy should be able to return in early August.Source: Sonja Chen
Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Sauce Gardner May Cover No. 1 Receivers More Often
Source: ESPN New York - Rich Cimini
New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner only covered an opponent's top receiver a handful of times each season in the team' previous zone-based defensive scheme, although he's quietly yearned for more of those chances. According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, Gardner said he could get many more chances to cover a WR1 in the new defensive scheme, which is expected to rely heavily on man-to-man coverage. In addition to trying to lock down another star wideout more, Gardner might get more blitzing opportunities under new defensive-minded head coach Aaron Glenn. Opposing QBs don't often target Gardner's side of the field, but that could change if he's guarding more top wideouts, which in turn could lead to more pass-breakup and interception opportunities for the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL. Tackling hasn't really been his forte, but Gardner's coverage skills are elite.Jeremy Pena Beginning Rehab Assignment on Tuesday
Jeremy Pena (ribs) was able to do a workout with the team ahead of Monday's game against the Washington Nationals. Pena is scheduled to begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday. The hope is that Pena will only need a short stint in the minors. Astros general manager Dana Brown said the team is hopeful that Pena can return on Friday for their series against the Boston Red Sox. Pena has been sidelined since late June due to a fractured rib. Fantasy managers should check back for updates throughout the week.Source: Matt Kawahara
Houston Astros shortstop Reese Olson Out for Rest of Regular Season
Reese Olson (shoulder) was placed on the 60-day injured list on Monday. This move means Olson will be sidelined at least through the rest of the regular season. It is possible that Olson makes a return for the postseason, but he can safely be dropped in fantasy formats. Olson didn't appear to be dealing with an injury, but a shoulder strain might explain his lack of command during his most recent outing. He'll finish the season with a 3.15 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and a 65/25 K/BB ratio across 13 starts. Newly acquired Chris Paddack figures to take over the vacant spot in the starting rotation.Source: Evan Petzold
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Christian Gonzalez Injured on Monday
Stefon Diggs on a crossing route during 11-on-11 drills, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN. Reiss noted that Gonzalez appeared to have suffered some sort of leg injury. It's unclear exactly what the 23-year-old is dealing with, but the fact that he was able to walk off under his own power is hopefully a sign that it's nothing serious. Losing the former first-round defensive back for an extended period of time would be really bad news for New England's secondary. Gonzalez was a key defender for the Pats in 2025 in his second NFL season, and he finished with 59 tackles (50 solo), two interceptions, 11 pass breakups and a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown in 16 starts.Source: ESPN Boston - Mike Reiss
New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez (leg) left training camp practice on Monday early under his own power after covering wide receiver Darren Waller in "Tremendous Shape"
Darren Waller is in "tremendous shape," but the team isn't allowing that to "trick us into thinking he's in football shape." Waller was "very active" with tight ends coach Jon Embree on Monday, according to ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques. The 32-year-old isn't dealing with any type of injury, but the Dolphins placed him on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list to start training camp after he retired and sat out all of the 2024 campaign. Waller is back now and should serve as the team's top pass-catching TE after they traded Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers. There's no guarantee that he'll be anything near the type of receiver he was in his peak seasons with the Raiders, but given the shallow fantasy position of TE, Waller is at least worthy of a TE2 dart throw.Source: ESPN.com - Marcel Louis-Jacques
Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said on Monday that tight end Alec Pierce Out on Monday With Blister on his Foot
Alec Pierce (foot) missed Monday's training camp practice due to a blister on his foot. Pierce is considered day-to-day with the minor injury and could return to the field in the next couple of days. The 25-year-old heads into his fourth NFL season in 2025 ranked as RotoBaller's No. 68 fantasy wideout after he had 37 receptions on 69 targets for a career-high 824 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games (13 starts). Pierce led the league with 22.3 yards per catch as a downfield threat for quarterbacks Anthony Richardson Sr. and Joe Flacco. It remains to be seen if he can develop into something other than just a deep threat, but with the Colts having a QB competition between Richardson and Daniel Jones, most fantasy managers aren't trying to find out.Source: The Athletic - James Boyd
Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen said that wide receiver Jaydon Blue Impressing Early in Training Camp
Jaydon Blue has impressed the coaching staff early in training camp despite the fact that veterans Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders have been given the majority of snaps with the first-team offense, writes K.D. Drummond of Cowboys Wire. Blue, who was taken in the fifth round of this year's draft, was impressive in pads over the weekend seems to have dispelled a recent report that a former coach labeled the 21-year-old as "borderline lazy." The 5-foot-9, 196-pounder doesn't really have the size to be a bell-cow back between the tackles, but there is room for growth in a Dallas backfield that could be a full on committee approach in 2025. Blue is still going to need to prove himself, but he could end up seeing decent playing time as a pass-catching option out of the backfield for Dallas.Source: Cowboys Wire - K.D. Drummond
Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Khalil Shakir Looking to Create More Separation
Khalil Shakir is looking to take the next step in 2025 after bursting onto the scene in 2024 with 76 catches, 821 receiving yards and four touchdowns during the regular season. Bills beat writer Maddy Glab says that this year, Shakir is looking to be quicker and to find new ways to separate from defensive backs. "First step quickness, always trying to improve on that," Shakir said of what he worked on this offseason. "Speed, just withholding speed for a certain amount of time and that quick burst, as well as separation. Just finding new ways and new releases to get open against man coverage." The 25-year-old had a high target share and plenty of yards after the catch, but the Bills spread the ball around too much to make him anything more than a WR3/flex. It's likely to continue, and his lack of red-zone usage makes Shakir a low-ceiling WR4/flex target.Source: BuffaloBills.com - Maddy Glab
Buffalo Bills wide receiver
