Oilers Sign Mattias Ekholm to Three-Year Extension
Edmonton Oilers defenseman Mattias Ekholm can celebrate a three-year extension ahead of Wednesday's season opener against the Calgary Flames. The deal, which starts with the 2026-27 season, is worth $12 million. Ekholm will take a significant pay cut with his new deal, as his current contract has a $6.25 million cap hit. The Swedish veteran will begin his third full season with the Oilers. He posted 33 points (nine goals, 24 assists) in 65 games last term, firing off 143 shots and blocking 95 attempts from the opposition. With better health, Ekholm could once again become a 40-point scorer in 2025-26.
