Matt Breida Has The Advantage For Backup Job
2 years agoNew York Giants running back Matt Breida was a speedy complement to starter Saquon Barkley, and he also worked well in tandem with the star runner in multi-back packages last year. Gary Brightwell had a group-high 4.5 yards per carry on his 31 rushes for 141 yards. Both Breida and Brightwell played their backup parts well last year, but The Athletic's Charlotte Carroll writes that Breida feels like a safe No. 2 option given his usage in 2022. Rookie fifth-rounder Eric Gray adds a needed injection of youth to the RB room, and he led the Big 12 in yards per carry (6.4) during his senior season. According to The Athletic's Dane Brugler, Gray brings a reputation as a "balanced, agile runner with darting quickness and steady pass-catching skills." Breida should be the handcuff for those that take Barkley early in fantasy drafts.
