Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor (shoulder) left Monday's contest against the Chicago White Sox early with right-shoulder discomfort and is considered day-to-day, according to the team. Naylor looked to be in pain after an aggressive swing in the top of the second inning and was replaced at first base by rookie Tim Tawa. Before leaving, the 28-year-old left-handed slugger went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a strikeout. Third baseman Eugenio Suarez (hand) also left this game after being hit on the hand by a pitch, but X-rays came back negative. The D-backs will likely send Naylor for an MRI exam to rule out any structural damage, and if he were to miss extended time, Pavin Smith would become the starting first baseman. Although he has only nine homers, Naylor has swung the bat well in his first season in the season in the desert, entering Monday with a .303 average, 49 RBI and 10 steals.--Keith Hernandez
