Blue Jays Name Jose Berrios As Opening Day Starter
Jose Berrios will be the team's Opening Day starter on Friday, April 8, against the Texas Rangers at home. Berrios made a career-high 32 starts last year with the Minnesota Twins and Blue Jays, going a combined 12-9 with a 3.52 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, a career-high 26.8% strikeout rate and a career-low 4.5% walk rate in 192 innings pitched. The right-hander is as reliable as they come, tossing 647 2/3 innings since 2018, which ranks fifth in all of baseball. Berrios is in a much tougher division in the American League East, but he also has a better offense behind him, and he should be a consistent source of innings and strikeouts.
