Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 4:
Drake Maye, New England Patriots
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye had a rough afternoon in Sunday's 35-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, turning the ball over three times before giving way to Tommy DeVito late. Maye finished 14-of-25 for 199 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions, and he also lost a fumble. The fumble came in the first quarter when the ball slipped out of his hand on a pass attempt, setting up Jacksonville's first touchdown.
Travis Hunter picked Maye off in the end zone late in the second quarter, then Jarrian Jones intercepted him in the third and returned it to the New England 5-yard line. Jacksonville scored on the next play to make it 28-3. There was some passing yardage for Maye, but the turnovers and lack of touchdowns left fantasy managers with very little. He has now thrown six interceptions through three games after tossing three in the opener and one last week.
He is a risky play in Week 4 given his string of inconsistent showings.
Sam Darnold, Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold returned from injury and played his first complete game of the season on Sunday. While Seattle lost, the outcome was even better than fantasy managers could have imagined. Darnold was quite busy through the air, completing 31 passes for 379 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions.
The pair of turnovers may very well have been the difference between the Seahawks losing and winning, but from a fantasy perspective, they're a negligible blemish amid an otherwise dominant outing. Two of his four touchdown passes went to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, as the quarterback and receiver continue to show off one of the strongest rapports in the league.
Darnold isn't a lock for four touchdowns every week, but he continues to have QB1 upside heading into Week 4 against the Chargers. As a result, he is a top quarterback target on the waiver wire in fantasy football.
Marcus Mariota, Washington Commanders
Washington Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota threw three touchdown passes in Sunday's upset victory over the Seahawks, finishing the week as the fantasy QB13. The veteran backup has now averaged 17.7 fantasy points across his last nine starts, topping 21 points four times in that span.
Jayden Daniels (elbow) is expected to travel with the team to London, but his status remains up in the air, and after gutting out a victory against one of the league's premier defensive units, Mariota could be in line for a second start against an Indianapolis Colts team that has allowed the third most passing yards through three weeks. Still possessing elite rushing upside even at nearly 33 years old, Mariota makes for a strong potential streaming option in Week 4.
Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers
When asked about quarterback Justin Herbert's decision-making after the team's third straight loss to start the season on Sunday on the road against the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said, "Be better," according to ESPN's Kris Rhim. Harbaugh has typically gone out of his way to defend Herbert since taking the head-coaching job in L.A. in 2023, but he is now calling the struggling signal-caller out to step up his game after the tough start. Last week, Harbaugh said he "wouldn't change a thing about Justin."
Herbert has not looked like himself in coordinator Mike McDaniel's offense through three games. He threw for 226 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception, but he could have had three if Bills defenders did not drop two of them. It is still early, but so far, Herbert is not remotely close to a potential breakout fantasy QB in McDaniel's scheme like many were hoping for.
It does not get any easier for Herbert, either, as he will face the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks and their strong defense in Week 4.
