Players to Target in Trades for Fantasy Football
Chase Brown, RB, Bengals
Cincinnati Bengals running back Chase Brown hasn't had the year most had anticipated heading into the 2025 campaign. He scored a touchdown in the Week 1 win over the Cleveland Browns. Unfortunately, the 25-year-old hasn't visited the end zone since.
However, Brown at least displayed signs of life in the Thursday night win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 7, finishing with 11 carries for 108 yards, marking his first game in nearly a year with over 100 yards on the ground.
Rightfully so, fantasy participants remain skeptical. Still, Brown was selected early in fantasy drafts leading up to the season, so will managers feel comfortable keeping him on the bench? Some will continue to take that approach, and that's understandable. On the other hand, injuries have been a common issue for teams around the National Football League, meaning others may not have anywhere else to turn.
All things considered, Brown has one of the highest ceilings at the running back position. Despite some imposing run-stoppers for the Jets, specifically Quinnen Williams and Brandon Stephens, Brown's pass-catching acumen gives him more than enough upside to warrant starting consideration in all fantasy setups.
Verdict: Buy-low if still possible, don't overpay
Jaylen Warren, RB, Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren is coming off his best performance of the season and will look to stay hot against the Green Bay Packers in Week 8.
On paper, this is not a favorable matchup for Warren, as the Packers surrender the third-fewest fantasy points per contest and fourth-fewest yards per carry to opposing running backs. However, Green Bay has given up the second-most receptions per game to the position, and Warren remains a key weapon in Pittsburgh's passing attack.
This Sunday night showdown carries a healthy projected point total, suggesting enough offensive volume to keep Warren involved. Fantasy managers can continue to trust the fourth-year back as a solid RB2 in all formats.
Verdict: Buy if you can at reasonable price, still undervalued
Cam Skattabo, RB, Giants
New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo should be in all starting fantasy lineups in Week 8, as he looks to repeat his dominant performance against the Philadelphia Eagles from Week 6. Skattebo has been a fantasy workhorse since taking over the backfield, ranking as the 8th-ranked fantasy RB for the season while averaging 15.46 Fantasy Points per game (FPPG). I
n the Week 6 matchup against the Eagles, Skattebo exploded for 98 rushing yards on 19 carries and found the end zone three times, demonstrating his elite scoring upside. Though Philadelphia's defense allows an average of 23.39 points to the position (ranking 25th against fantasy RBs), its stout 3rd-ranked red zone defense could be a factor.
Skattebo's high 53.4% timeshare and his red-zone usage, evidenced by his five rushing touchdowns, cement him as a must-start despite the Eagles looking for revenge. His high usage and volume makes for a stud fantasy RB.
Verdict: Buy if you still can at reasonable price, worth over-paying
Other Players to Target in Trades
- Ashton Jeanty
- Tee Higgins
- Quinshon Judkins
- George Pickens
- Bucky Irving
Players to Trade Away for Fantasy Football
Derrick Henry, RB, Ravens
Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry hasn't finished in RB1 territory in half-PPR leagues since Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills. The ground game has struggled mightily, especially while Lamar Jackson (hamstring) has been sidelined, due to playing major catch-up as the defense gives up the most points in the league.
In Week 8, one of the bigger returning names for the run game is Patrick Ricard. The big fullback has been a huge help with both run blocking and pass protection, and has registered multiple seasons with grades of 80 or above in run blocking.
Even with his return, Jackson has been ruled out which potentially sets up Henry to not reach to his ceiling. He's projected to be more of an RB2 again this week, and this may be an emerging pattern for a Ravens team that may be looking at a lost season.
Verdict: Sell-high if possible
Rico Dowdle, RB, Panthers
Carolina Panthers running back Rico Dowdle is in line for a potentially favorable matchup in Week 8 against the Bills. Over the last four weeks, Buffalo ranked 30th in fantasy points per game allowed to running backs. The Bills have a vulnerable run defense, allowing 31.1 fantasy points per game to RBs during that span.
Expect Carolina to rely on their running game in Week 8 to stay in the game. Head coach Dave Canales mentioned that the workload between Dowdle and Chuba Hubbard will be split between the two running backs this week. Last week, Dowdle had a snap share of 46% compared to Hubbard, with 54%. Despite Hubbard having the advantage in snaps, Dowdle outrushed him 79 to 31 rushing yards.
If the Panthers don't fall far behind, the running game can be productive because of the matchup. With six teams on a bye in fantasy football Week 8, lock Dowdle in as an RB2 start.
Verdict: Sell with split backfield
Travis Etienne, RB, Jaguars
Following an excellent start to the 2025 season, Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. has cooled off as the team heads into its Week 8 bye. The fifth-year back is the No. 16 overall PPR running back, but has now recorded fewer than 50 yards rushing and no touchdowns in three straight games for the Jags, who were thoroughly quieted by the Los Angeles Rams in a 35-7 loss last week.
Etienne drew only eight carries and one catch, his fewest number of touches in a game this season. The Jags traded Tank Bigsby to Philadelphia earlier this year, and rookie Bhayshul Tuten has yet to play more than a third of the team's snaps in a game, so Etienne is still the clear top option, but managers should continue to watch his usage in the weeks to come. Jacksonville travels to Las Vegas in Week 9.
Verdict: Sell-high if possible
