Top 25 Fantasy Baseball Prospects To Stash (Week 9): Redraft Rankings

Heston Kjerstad - Fantasy Baseball Prospects, Draft Sleepers, MLB Rookie Rankings

Eric Cross's top 25 fantasy baseball prospects rankings for Week 9 (2024). MLB prospects, rookies, call-ups who can be fantasy baseball sleepers in redraft.

After receiving prospect promotions early and often in the month of April, it's been much quieter on the prospect front here in May outside of the debut of some guy named Paul Skenes. You may have heard of him. He's pretty good.

That's usually how it goes with prospect promotions. We'll get a bunch in a few week span and then crickets for the next few weeks. Fortunately, there are still a ton of exciting prospects worth stashing right now, depending on your league depth, including a few coming back from injuries.

Remember, stashing prospects should be done strategically and varies from league to league. Don't leave your teams without much depth just because you want all the high-upside prospects on your roster.

Fantasy Baseball Prospect Rankings Analysis

Junior Caminero, Tampa Bay Rays

My plan was to discuss how Tampa Bay shifted Junior Caminero to second base in order to get his bat in the lineup sooner, but that experiment lasted only two days on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week before returning to the hot corner. I'm not sure if that plan is dead or if Tampa Bay will revisit it soon, but I'm all for anything that quickens Caminero's return to the Majors.

Over his last 17 games, Caminero is slashing .329/.390/.586 with three doubles and five home runs. He remains in the top spot of these rankings as he's the only one who feels like he might be up within the next couple of weeks. Plus, you know, he's really good and a Tier-1 fantasy prospect.

Coby Mayo, Baltimore Orioles

Unfortunately, we're not going to get that Coby Mayo promotion for at least the next several weeks. Mayo broke a rib crashing into the dugout while trying to catch a foul ball last Thursday night and will miss the next several weeks, according to the Orioles. Damn.

This is a major blow for anyone who had been stashing Mayo over the first seven weeks of the season, patiently waiting for his potent bat to get the call. If you play in a deeper league with plenty of bench spots, I can see stashing him still, but he's probably not up until July or later at this point. So those of you who aren't in deeper formats can probably move on to stashing another player from this list.

Orelvis Martinez, Toronto Blue Jays

I'm not sure we'll get an Orelvis Martinez promotion soon, either. Don't worry, he's not injured, but the 22-year-old is in a major funk at the plate right now. After a three-hit game to open the month, Martinez is 5/50 over his last 15 games with only two extra-base hits.

Both of those are home runs, and he's only striking out 18.8% of the time during this stretch, so that's not an issue, at least. However, this slump, along with his struggles defensively at second base, is probably going to delay his arrival in Toronto.

Jasson Dominguez, New York Yankees

Get ready! The Martian's return is drawing closer. Jasson Dominguez has gone 5/13 with four walks in four games for Low-A Tampa since returning from injury and will progress to Double-A and Triple-A over the next week. It's already been determined that he'll use his entire 20-day rehab allotment, and the Yankees have also said that Dominguez will be optioned to Triple-A once he's activated.

I'm not sure if I believe that or not, but even if that's true, Dominguez is one of the best prospects to stash right now, given his power/speed upside and potential 2024 impact. Dominguez is coming off back-to-back seasons with at least 15 home runs and 37 steals. He flexed his notable raw power with four home runs in eight games for the Yankees late last season before landing on the IL.

Garrett Mitchell, Milwaukee Brewers

Another outfielder getting closer to a return from injury is Garrett Mitchell. He's not quite as close as Dominguez, but it was reported that Mitchell would take batting practice this week and could begin a rehab assignment after that if all goes well. Once he's ready to return, he'll likely take back over in center field with Sal Frelick and Jackson Chourio flanking him in the corners and Christian Yelich mostly in the DH spot.

There are some contact and strikeout issues with Mitchell, which causes inconsistent performance week to week, but Mitchell is an elite runner with above-average raw power that has a 650 PA pace of 23 home runs and 41 steals in the Majors.

Heston Kjerstad, Baltimore Orioles

After playing sparingly with Baltimore, Heston Kjerstad has returned to Triple-A where he is once again starting regularly and mashing in the middle of the loaded Norfolk lineup. Kjerstad hit a walk-off grand slam on Sunday and had a double and two home runs in six games since his demotion.

It's hard to predict who will get a shot to play regularly in Baltimore and when that shot will be, but Kjerstad is one of the most potent bats in the minor leagues and returns to the Top 5 of these stash rankings.

Jordan Walker, St. Louis Cardinals

Finally, I wanted to end this week's stash article with an update on Jordan Walker. Yes, he's not a prospect and won't be in the rankings above, but he's still a notable young player that needs to be discussed in an article such as this. Walker has yet to go yard in 17 games for Triple-A Memphis, but he's hitting .375 with four doubles and nearly as many walks (6) as strikeouts (8).

He's still hitting the ball hard, but Walker's lift issue remains. I'm not sure when he'll be back up, but Walker is still a player worth stashing outside of shallower formats. He'd be in the Top 10 above for reference if he was still a prospect.
