Happy Thursday, RotoBallers! This is Mike Marteny once again dropping some of my favorite plays for tonight's slate. Like last week, we have a decent-sized five-game slate tonight on DraftKings and FanDuel.
FanDuel and DraftKings have the same sized slate tonight as all of the East Coast games start at relatively the same time. We have two games in New York, one in D.C., and one in Detroit before we head out west to Seattle. There are some decent spots to attack here, so let's get started!
This article will provide my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for DraftKings at 7:10 pm and FanDuel at 6:40 pm on 6/09/2022. The lineup picks will range from some elite players to mid-priced options, and value plays. You can also read more DFS advice and lineup picks for other sports here. It's also essential to monitor injury news and today's MLB starting lineups. Now that we got all of that out of the way, it's onto the picks!

DraftKings, FanDuel Pitchers - MLB DFS Lineup Picks
Zack Wheeler, PHI at WAS ($9,600 DK, $10,600 FD)
I like Severino too, but some who do a little deeper dive on Wheeler might shy away. Peculiarly, his road numbers haven't been great this year. However, they are skewed by an April disaster in Miami that he simply hasn't had enough innings to recover from. In the three road starts since Wheeler has allowed six earned runs total with no less than seven strikeouts in each game. They were against some good teams too in the Dodgers, Mets, and Braves.
Washington's offense is waking up a bit, but Wheeler has only allowed eight earned runs in eight starts since April 23. Seven of those eight were quality starts and he has at least seven strikeouts in each. This doesn't feel like a place for a blow-up. Wheeler's slow start is a distant memory and this feels like a pitcher that should easily be five figures on DK. I'll take the discount!
Martin Perez, TEX at DET ($9,000 DK, $10,500 FD)
I'm a little more inclined to chase the upside with Perez than Ohtani just based on the opponent. Admittedly, this is a much easier choice on DraftKings. On FanDuel Ohtani and Perez are only $300 apart. We get more of a discount on Ohtani over on DK, so I can't fault that play in any format.
The Tigers are hitting a pathetic .214 with just two home runs in the last two weeks. TWO! They are also striking out at a healthy 27.9% clip in that same time frame. Perez hit a bump in the road last week against a White Sox team that is finally waking up. He doesn't have the strikeout upside that Ohtani has, but Perez is facing a team that can't hit in a cavernous ballpark. He's the safer option, though I'll chase the upside with Ohtani in GPPs.
Also consider: Luis Severino, Shohei Ohtani, George Kirby (if you're desperate)

DraftKings, FanDuel Infielders - MLB DFS Lineup Picks
Rhys Hoskins - 1B, PHI at Patrick Corbin ($4,400 DK, $3,600 FD)
Honestly, Corbin looks washed. Inexplicably, the Nationals let him start 31 games last year despite the awful 5.82 ERA. And before you go jumping me about ERA not covering everything, I agree. However, his xERA was only 0.2 runs lower, so that lofty mark was earned. Corbin has been even worse this year with a 6.65 ERA and 6.03 xERA. The velocity is down, walks are up, the 10.5-degree launch angle is also 1.5 degrees higher than last year, and his 10% barrel percentage is the worst allowed in his career. It's not a shocker that his hard-hit percentage of 44.3% is the worst of his career and the third consecutive year that it's been above 40%. I'm going Corbin hunting again today, specifically with righties. Who better than Hoskins, who has five homers and 11 RBI in his last seven games to go with a blistering .517 average. His price is criminally low on DK, especially with him facing Corbin.
Ezequiel Duran - 2B/3B, TEX at Beau Brieske ($2,500 DK, $2,800 FD)
This is a park that suppresses homers, but it does have a spacious outfield. That plays right into Duran's biggest asset: his speed. The Rangers are letting the rookie play – he hasn't been out of the lineup since his call-up on June 4 – and he has responded with a .326 average, a pair of homers, a pair of steals, and five RBI. Duran's upside is a bit capped hitting near the bottom of the order, but I'll take this speed with his 72.2% contact rate and 27.6% line drive percentage in the Comerica Park outfield at a discount.
Eduardo Escobar - 3B, NYM vs. Aaron Ashby ($3,600 DK, $2,800 FD)
Ashby got knocked around a little in his last start and there's reason to think this may be a harbinger of things to come. He has allowed 10 runs in 10.2 June innings. Ashby is still inducing a lot of ground balls, but he has given up a lot more hard contact in June. Seven balls hit in his last start left the bat at over 100 mph with four more topping 90. Nothing about Escobar stands out overall, but a slow start to the season has skewed some of that. Escobar is hitting .282 with two of his five homers on the season and nine RBI in the last ten games. He historically hits fastballs well and is performing very well against changeups this year – a pitch that Ashby likes to use on righties.

DraftKings, FanDuel Outfielders - MLB DFS Lineup Picks
Aaron Judge - OF, NYY vs. Josh Fleming ($6,300 DK, $4,600 FD)
When we last saw Josh Fleming, he was getting punished by the Twins and Mariners twice in a three-game stretch in early May. That earned him a demotion to AAA Durham where he looked like the second coming of Nuke LaLoosh. Fleming went 6-0 with a 0.98 ERA in six games in Durham. He has nothing left to prove in South Carolina, but man, this is a really tough return spot. The Yankees are rolling, having mashed 15 homers in the last week alone. Judge hits 38 points higher at home and he destroys fastballs and sliders....which make up 84% of Fleming's offerings. All rise!
Randy Arozarena - OF, TB at Luis Severino ($5,400 DK, $3,700 FD)
That's a lofty price for a guy facing Severino, but Severino likes to throw his fastballs. That's music to Arozarena's bat, as he hits 4-seamers at a .351 clip this year. Arozarena is finally heating up after a bit of a slow start. He is hitting .351 with two homers, four steals, and 10 RBI (with only four strikeouts) over the last ten games. This is a tournament play only, but as well as he hits Severino's pitch types, it's a way to get off of the popular Yankees bats.
Taylor Ward - OF, LAA at George Kirby ($4,200 DK, $3,500 FD)
This takes a bit of a leap of faith considering that Ward was in a slump before he spent 10 days on the IL and was stymied by the Dodgers in two games upon his return. However, I've been trying to think of how I want to go after Kirby. He has given up 10 runs over his last two starts. Kirby is primarily a 4-seamer/slider pitcher, which are the two types of pitch that Ward hits best. He is still leading off for the Angels and his Statcast page is almost as red as Judge's. There's a lot to like if you aren't scared off by the slump.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Patrick Corbin
I discussed Corbin's horrific season at length earlier in this piece. Since I like to give variety, I stayed away from the rest of the Phillies up there. Not here. I'll have at least a Phillies mini in every lineup. The Nationals' bullpen isn't the best unit behind Corbin either. The white-hot Rhys Hoskins lead the way here. The hardest part to pick is which five make your stack on DraftKings. There are plenty of suitable options.
Favorite Plays: Rhys Hoskins, Nick Castellanos, J.T. Realmuto, Alec Bohm, Kyle Schwarber
Texas Rangers vs. Beau Brieske
This is the low-hanging fruit. Don't expect a lot of homers out of this stack, but that doesn't mean the run potential won't be there. The Rays are either sending Jalen Beeks or Fleming to the mound. The Yankees will be a very popular (and very expensive) stack. The Rangers may be a bit off the beaten path, but the Tigers' bullpen is even worse than the starting rotation. You can fit Rangers and Phillies without skimping on pitching, which will be my favorite approach with mostly Yankees one-offs.
Favorite plays: Ezequiel Duran, Marcus Semien, Adolis Garcia, Nathaniel Lowe, Kole Calhoun
