Should I Start Taysom Hill in Week 17? Fantasy Football Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Picks

Taysom Hill - Fantasy Football Rankings, Waiver Wire Pickups, Draft Sleepers

Should I start or sit Taysom Hill for fantasy football in Week 17? Read our fantasy football start 'em, sit 'em picks and fantasy lineup recommendations.

Did we witness Taysom Hill's 'Last Dance' moment in Week 16?

New Orleans' do-it-all athlete rewrote the history books on Sunday. He's now the only player in the Super Bowl era with more than 1,000 passing, rushing, and receiving yards. And he did so, in what could be his final game in the Caesars Superdome.

As has been the case throughout his career, Hill's usage attracts attention from tight-end-needy fantasy managers. With injuries to Brock Bowers and George Kittle, is Hill worth a start in Week 17? Let's dive in.

Taysom Hill Fantasy Football Outlook

The fantasy community theorized which fourth-string running back would see the bulk of the touches for New Orleans, following the injuries to Alvin Kamara, Kendre Miller, and Devin Neal. Audric Estime was deemed the favorite, with Evan Hull mixing in. Estime led the backfield in snap share, but Hill had more carries (12) than Estime and Hull's combined total (10).

There are zero other players with tight end eligibility who handle double-digit carries. The rushing production is what puts Hill on the fantasy football map. He only has eight receptions this season, four of which came on Sunday. A four-catch repeat won't get it done, especially on championship weekend. Add in 40 rushing yards and a 38-yard passing touchdown, and you have yourself a top-12 tight end.

In the right week, Hill is a cheat code at the tight end position. In the wrong week, however, it's catastrophic.

For every TE1 finish, there are several games with just a smattering of touches. Following Hill's first game with double-digit touches this season, he saw one carry for two yards and one catch for five. There's zero consistency.

Should I Start Taysom Hill in Week 17?

How much are you willing to risk for a championship?

That's ultimately what this boils down to. Hill isn't the TE1 in New Orleans. That job belongs to Juwan Johnson. He won't see the most snaps at running back. That's Estime's duty. Hill's fantasy football production is all circumstantial.

And the circumstances have clearly changed from a week ago. Hill isn't playing in what could be his last game in front of the home crowd. What's stopping the coaching staff from sparingly using Hill on the road against the Tennessee Titans?

If a fantasy manager is a heavy underdog, Hill could make sense. His ceiling is higher than any tight end outside of the top four. But if the projections are tight, a tight end with more consistent playing time should be the smarter play; Someone like Johnson, Brenton Strange, Colston Loveland, or Hunter Henry.
