Trey Lance Has Made "Substantial Jump" This Offseason
2 years agoSan Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, general manager John Lynch and private quarterbacks coach Jeff Christensen think that quarterback Trey Lance is throwing the ball more efficiently than he was last spring. Christensen said Lance's biggest breakthrough came when he stood behind Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and watched him throw. The former No. 3 overall pick in 2021, Lance has completed just 54.9% of his passes in his first two NFL seasons over four starts. Brock Purdy (elbow) is expected to be the team's starter in 2023 if he's healthy, but he's currently recovering, so Lance and Sam Darnold will see reps in spring practices. Injuries have played a big role in Lance's delivery, but he's fully healthy now and is looking to make things interesting in training camp this summer.
