The Washington Nationals traded 33-year-old right-hander
Kyle Finnegan to the Detroit Tigers on Thursday. Finnegan will now join the first-place Tigers as they look to make a push to win a division title and make a deep run in the playoffs. It's been an up-and-down season for Finnegan, as he has 20 saves out of 26 save opportunities this season. He was ranked sixth in the National League in saves. However, he owns a 4.38 ERA to go with a 1.28 WHIP. In his career, Finnegan has 108 saves. Finnegan figures to be the seventh- or eighth-inning guy for the Tigers, which decreases his value.
Will Vest appears to have a good hold on the closer role, and
Tommy Kahnle and
Tyler Holton have been solid as middle relievers while also getting a few saves from time to time.

The early returns on Carolina Panthers rookie first-round wide receiver
Tetairoa McMillan have "been glowing," a Panthers source told FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz. "He's been even better than advertised -- smooth, explosive, and already gaining trust from the QBs. You can't take your eyes off him at practice because he's making so many big plays." McMillan dealt with a minor leg injury in minicamp but is full-go now and is looking great after the Panthers took him eighth overall in April's NFL draft. The 22-year-old will be the team's X receiver right away as he looks to become one of quarterback
Bryce Young's favorite target right away. McMillan will be competing for targets with
Xavier Legette and veteran
Adam Thielen. If Young takes another step forward in Year 3, McMillan could be a bargain with WR2 upside in the middle rounds of fantasy drafts.

JP Sears. Baez was ranked as the No. 12 overall prospect in the San Diego system on MLB Pipeline before the trade. This season, the 22-year-old right-hander has spent the entire campaign pitching for Double-A San Antonio. Through 96 2/3 innings with San Antonio, Baez has posted a stellar 1.96 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP. He has struck out 89 hitters and allowed just 31 free passes. Last season, Baez held a much higher 3.06 ERA at Double-A. Given his steady production at Double-A this season, he could be in the mix to make his Triple-A debut in Las Vegas during the second half.

The Cleveland Guardians are acquiring right-handed pitcher Khal Stephen from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for right-handed pitcher
Shane Bieber (elbow). Before the trade, Stephen was considered the No. 9-ranked prospect in the Toronto system on MLB.com. The Blue Jays drafted Stephen with the 59th overall pick in last year's MLB Draft out of Mississippi State. He made his professional debut earlier this season with Low-A Dunedin. Through 39 1/3 innings, Stephen held a strong 2.06 ERA with a 0.92 WHIP. He then moved up to High-A, where he posted an elite 1.49 ERA with a 0.85 WHIP across 48 1/3 innings of work. He was given the call to join Double-A, where he has logged four innings of four-run ball. Fantasy managers should expect Stephen to report to Double-A in the Cleveland system. Given his progression, he should be in the mix to debut in 2026.

Atlanta Falcons rookie linebacker/edge rusher Jalon Walker (hamstring) will miss his third consecutive practice on Thursday, according to Josh Kendall of The Athletic. Walker's injury has been described as "very minor" by Falcons head coach Raheem Morris. A first-round draft pick out of the University of Georgia, Walker recorded 37 solo tackles, 6.5 sacks, and 11 TFLs in 14 games for the Bulldogs in 2024. The 21-year-old is expected to be an immediate contributor for a Falcons defense that has been desperate for pass-rushing talent in recent seasons. It doesn't sound as though this current injury puts Walker at risk for significant missed time, but with every practice he misses, Walker loses out on valuable preparation time for his first NFL season.

Diontae Johnson has "mostly played with the second and third offensive units" in training camp practices, according to Zak Jackson of The Athletic. Jackson writes that Johnson may be competing with second-year wideout
Jamari Thrash for the primary slot receiver role, or "even for a roster spot." In 12 games last season split between the Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens, and Houston Texans, Johnson recorded 33 catches for 375 yards and three touchdowns. The 29-year-old has significantly more NFL production under his belt than Thrash, who had just three catches in nine games for Cleveland as a rookie in 2024. Johnson had been a useful fantasy player for most of his career up until 2024, but it appears he has some work to do just to make the Browns roster heading into 2025.

Braelon Allen has been "one of the stars of camp so far," and the Jets are "going to have a hard time keeping Allen off the field," according to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic. A fourth-round pick in 2024 out of Wisconsin, Allen rushed for 334 yards and two touchdowns on 92 carries as a rookie. He's the nominal backup to
Breece Hall in New York, but there's been steady buzz coming out of Jets' camp that the two backs will share the workload fairly evenly. Rosenblatt notes that Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has "made it a point" to talk up Hall's receiving ability, which could point to more third-down work for Hall and early-down work for Allen. There's a significant difference in where the two Jets backs are being drafted by fantasy managers, so Allen could end up being a steal if New York does indeed opt for more of a 50/50 split.

A free-agent addition by Minnesota this past offseason, Mason logged 153 carries for 789 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games for the San Francisco 49ers in 2024. He's expected to work in a timeshare with veteran
Aaron Jones in the Vikings' backfield in 2025. Mason has historically struggled as a pass-catcher (14 career receptions), but he's been a highly efficient rusher (5.3 rushing yards per attempt on 236 career carries). That could make him the ideal complement for the 30-year-old Jones, who is an excellent receiver out of the backfield but may not be able to handle a large workload as a rusher at this point in his career.

Daeqwon Plowden has signed a two-way contract with the Sacramento Kings. The 26-year-old was a free agent after being waived by the Phoenix Suns earlier this month. Plowden appeared in his first six NBA games with the Atlanta Hawks last season, averaging 7.2 points in 12.0 minutes, with an impressive 52.9 percent shooting from three-point range. He's been a reliable scorer in the G League and was part of the Kings' Summer League team. Plowden's averages of 7.3 points and 2.7 rebounds in Vegas were apparently enough to earn a two-way deal with the Kings.
