Tyler Locklear to Start at First Base in Arizona
Tyler Locklear to immediately play first base for the Arizona Diamondbacks after they acquired him as part of the package for All-Star third baseman Eugenio Suarez on Wednesday night. The D-backs will give Locklear every opportunity to win the job for the future, while Tristin English will likely be sent to the minors to make room on the active roster. After the trade, the 24-year-old is ranked by MLB Pipeline as Arizona's No. 6 prospect. Pavin Smith (oblique), who is on the injured list, can continue to pick up playing time at DH and in the outfield when he returns. Locklear hit .156 (7-for-45) with two homers and 20 K's in his first 16 big-league games with the M's last year but was hitting .316 with 19 homers and 17 steals at Triple-A Tacoma in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League this year.
