Braden Nett Moving to Sacramento in Big Deadline Deal
Braden Nett, Henry Baez and Eduarniel Nunez and shortstop prospect Leodalis De Vries from the San Diego Padres on Thursday in exchange for closer Mason Miller and left-hander JP Sears, sources tell ESPN's Jeff Passan. Nett, 23, was listed as the Padres' No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder has power stuff and the ability to miss bats at a high level, but his control in the minors has been a bit suspect. He heads to the A's after posting a 3.39 ERA and 1.41 WHIP with 86 strikeouts and 34 walks in 74 1/3 innings over 17 starts for Double-A San Antonio this year. Nett relies on a high-90s heater and tight slider that both get lots of swing and miss. If he can show better control to close out the year in the A's system and to begin 2026, he could get a look in the big-league rotation in 2026.
