Leodalis De Vries Heads to A's in Blockbuster Deal
Leodalis De Vries and right-handed pitching prospects Braden Nett, Henry Baez and Eduarniel Nunez from the San Diego Padres on Thursday in exchange for closer Mason Miller and left-hander JP Sears, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan. De Vries, 18, was the Padres' top prospect and the No. 3 prospect in all of baseball, per MLB Pipeline, so it's quite a haul for the A's. De Vries has lots of potential for sure, but he's a year or two away from making it to the big leagues, and he could be shifting to second base when he does given the presence of Rookie of the Year candidate Jacob Wilson at short. De Vries is the youngest player at High-A this year and has hit .245/.357/.410 with eight home runs and eight steals in 82 games. The young switch-hitter has advanced plate discipline for his age.
