Michael Mayer Has Some Catching Up To Do
2 years agoLas Vegas Raiders rookie tight end Michael Mayer missed the entirety of mandatory minicamp this week for an undisclosed reason, so he'll have some catching up to do come training camp at the end of July. Mayer will be competing with Austin Hooper and O.J. Howard for the starting tight end job in 2023 now that Darren Waller is playing for the Giants. "He's done a nice job," TEs coach Jerry Schuplinski said of Mayer. "We're always looking for guys who are willing blockers in line when it comes to the run game; he certainly has that. And then we want guys who have a good feel in the passing game, and he has that, too. I think he fits in well." The 21-year-old has plenty of upside because of his route-running and solid hands, but fantasy managers should expect some growing pains early on.
