J.D. Martinez Not Expected To Play Friday
2 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers designated hitter J.D. Martinez (back) is still dealing with a lower-back issue and isn't expected to play for the series opener on Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Martinez will be missing his fourth straight game this week and hasn't even swung a bat in a few days, so this is trending towards an injured list stint if the 35-year-old isn't able to return to the lineup for the weekend series against St. Louis. The good news for the Blue is that catcher Will Smith (concussion) is likely to come off the injured list on Friday to take over the DH spot with Martinez still hurting. In his first season with the Dodgers, Martinez has gone 22-for-88 (.250) with nine doubles, two triples, four home runs and 15 RBI in 23 games.
