Fernando Tatis Jr. Considering Winter Ball
4 years agoSan Diego Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. said he won't rule out playing winter ball this season for the Estrellas Orientales in the Dominican Republic. Tatis won a Silver Slugger award last week and is also a finalist for National League MVP. He hasn't played in the Dominican since the 2018-19 season when he led the San Pedro de Macoris team to their first title in 51 years. The shortened Dominican winter-ball season starts on Nov. 15 and runs through Dec. 19, with the playoffs and finals set to be completed by Jan. 15. One of the most exciting and talented young players in baseball, the 21-year-old shortstop phenom got the Padres back to the postseason in 2020 and still has immense upside. He's locked up through the 2024 season, but the Padres are interested in extending him now.
