Antonio Gibson Will Have More Opportunities
1 year agoThe Washington Commanders have used running back Antonio Gibson mostly as a traditional back in his first three years in the NFL, and his efficiency hit a low point in 2022 when he averaged 3.7 yards per carry. But Gibson's stock is rising heading into the 2023 season with new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy in town, and they plan to get Gibson the ball more in space on plays like the RB screen. The release of J.D. McKissic and the draft selection of power back Chris Rodriguez will create more opportunities for Gibson, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract as the team's receiving threat. He could become a "matchup nightmare for the opponent," according to head coach Ron Rivera. Target Gibson as a sleeper in PPR leagues as an RB3/flex.
