ANALYSIS: The Chigcao Cubs promoted their No. 4-ranked prospect, catcher Moises Ballesteros, to the major leagues earlier in May, when Ian Happ (oblique) went on the 10-day IL. During his first taste of the majors, the young backstop posted a .188/.278/.188 line with no extra-base hits and a 1:2 K:BB.

Once Happ returned from the IL, the Cubs opted to send Ballesteros back to Triple-A Iowa. Even though he was only in the majors for a brief stint, Ballesteros showed potential, generating a strong .266 xBA with an elite 72.9 mph velocity bat speed and 12.5% whiff rate.

At Triple-A, the 21-year-old has looked quite comfortable. Through 41 games this season with Iowa, Ballesteros has been one of the top hitters at the level, boasting a .344/.407/.497 slash line with eight doubles, five home runs, and an impressive 18:17 K:BB.

With No. 2 catcher Miguel Amaya hitting the injured list with an oblique injury, Ballesteros may have a path to return to the majors sooner than expected. While he only served as a DH during his first stint in the majors, his primary position has been behind the dish.

If Ballesteros continues to perform at an elite level at Triple-A, expect the Cubs to give him another stint in the big leagues, this time as a true backstop.
