Week 14 Defense (DST) Rankings Outlooks
Miami Dolphins D/ST
The Miami Dolphins' defense has been helping to carry the team during their current three-game winning streak. They've held the Bills, Commanders, and Saints under 20 points in their three wins with eight sacks and seven takeaways in those matchups. This week, they'll face the Jets, who have been one of the top 10 matchups in the NFL for opposing D/ST.
Tyrod Taylor has taken over at QB, and the offense has been a little better the last few weeks, but it's still a favorable matchup for the Dolphins' D this week. The Jets have allowed multiple sacks in four straight weeks, with four turnovers and a defensive touchdown allowed. In a favorable matchup with their current momentum, the Dolphins check in as the No. 5 DST in RotoBaller's Week 14 rankings, making them a strong start in most leagues this week.
Kansas City Chiefs D/ST
The Kansas City Chiefs' defense has been struggling to keep points off the board, giving up at least 20 points in four straight games. The Chiefs just gave up 31 points to the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving while recording zero sacks, marking their worst performance of the season. The Kansas City defense has now given up at least 20 points in eight games this season and has recorded back-to-back games without a single sack.
While the Houston Texans' offense is not high-flying, their defense is among the best in the league. If the Texans' defense can take the ball out of the hands of Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs' defense could find themselves on the field often. The Chiefs' defense ranks 14th in our RotoBaller rankings, making them a less desirable option for Sunday's slate.
Philadelphia Eagles D/ST
The Philadelphia Eagles' defense/special teams unit let up 24 points while forcing two sacks and an interception last week against the Chicago Bears. That means Philly has now recorded 24 sacks and 13 takeaways this season, both of which land them in the bottom 10 in the league.
On Monday, they'll face off against the Los Angeles Chargers, who average 23.1 points per game and might get promising rookie running back Omarion Hampton returning this week. But the Eagles have shown they can keep even some of the top-scoring offenses to single digits. It's worth checking to see if better options at D/ST are available on waivers, but Philadelphia is a safe option in Week 14.
Houston Texans D/ST
The Houston Texans D/ST will face a tough matchup in Week 14 as they travel to Kansas City to face Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. They are still a strong starting option, although they aren't in an elite matchup to deliver a big total. Last week, the Texans held the Colts to 16 points but had a quiet day with just one sack and no takeaways. The previous week, they dominated the Bills in primetime, racking up eight sacks and three takeaways in one of their best games of the season.
The Texans' elite pass rush has totaled 34 sacks in 12 games this season, while the team has 19 takeaways and a pair of defensive touchdowns. Houston is making a playoff push after winning four straight, and the defense has been leading the way in its recent surge. The Chiefs have been a tough matchup for DST, though, so even though they have been excellent, they're only the No. 7 DST in RotoBaller's rankings this week.
