Neftali Feliz (RP, MIL) - 2017 Fantasy Baseball Sleepers & Draft Values

BALLER MOVE: Target ~210

CURRENT ADP: 233

ANALYSIS: Neftali Feliz has had an up-and-down career since 2014, so he will look for consistency in 2017 as the best candidate to close out wins for the Milwaukee Brewers. Entering the season in a rebuilding phase, the Brewers may trade Feliz if he becomes desired by other teams over the course of the season. Feliz is a reliable pick for a third closer as long as he stays on the Brewers.

Brandon Kintzler (RP, MIN) - 2017 Fantasy Baseball Sleepers & Draft Values

BALLER MOVE: Target ~240

CURRENT ADP: 270

ANALYSIS: Brandon Kintzler pitched to a 3.15 ERA with just 17 saves, but his job appears to be secure. Former closer Glen Perkins is recovering from a significant injury so his likelihood of being ready for the start of the season is slim. Until Perkins proves he's healthy and capable of progressing to high-leverage situations, Kintzler is the go-to closer for the Twins. Kintzler is being drafted after several setup men, and

Jim Johnson (RP, ATL) - 2017 Fantasy Baseball Sleepers & Draft Values

BALLER MOVE: Target ~220

CURRENT ADP: 251

ANALYSIS: Last year, Jim Johnson showed that he may have turned back to a better time in his 11-year career. Having recorded 20 saves on a 3.06 ERA while striking out just over a batter per inning, Johnson appears to have found success as closer of the Atlanta Braves. Is he a top-10 closer? No, but his recent success paired with the inexperienced relievers he shares the bullpen with provide stability for the 33-year-old veteran

2016 in Review: Relief Pitcher (RP) Breakouts

Our review of the 2016 fantasy baseball season continues with a look at some of the top breakout relievers. Relief Pitcher Breakouts - 2016 Alex Colome, Tampa Bay Rays The Rays entered the season unsure of their closer. Brad Boxberger saved an AL-high 41 games in 2015, but was unavailable for the first two months of the year due to an abductor injury. Some speculated Danny Farquhar would get the nod since he had more game experience on his resume. Instead it was Colome who took the reins, and he didn't...continue reading

Deeper Waiver Wire Pickups For Week 25 (American League)

The Athletics may have one of the worst records in the Majors this year at 66-84 going into Tuesday, and they may be 22.5 games behind the first place Rangers. But with the team striking gold multiple times this year with inexperienced and rookie players during the second half--including third baseman Ryon Healy, starting pitcher Sean Manaea and relief pitcher...continue reading

Tyler Thornburg (RP, MIL) - Waiver Wire Pickups

Baller Move: Add in All Leagues Owned in: 58% of Fleaflicker Leagues Analysis: Tyler Thornburg was riding a hot streak from the mound well before Will Smith and Jeremy Jeffress were traded away, leaving a lot of high-leverage innings vacant. August 1st is a distant memory now, and Thornburg has been a lights-out closer for Milwaukee. He is still having trouble finding ample takers for some reason. Let's start with the obvious:...continue reading

Bullpen Waiver Wire Pickups For Week 23

While holds are even tougher to predict than saves, the players we’ll highlight today include some elite setup men that have proven to be closer candidates to target off the waiver wire for Week 23 of the fantasy baseball season. The more likely a team is to win, the more likely a pitcher will be eligible to earn the holds that could be the difference between winning or losing in your fantasy league. Bear in mind, an effective relief pitcher highlighted today could find himself in a closer's role if the everyday...continue reading

The Cut List (Week 23): Players To Consider Cutting Bait On

It's playoff time folks! If you've made it this far congratulations. Whether you're in the winners' bracket or just playing for pride, it's time to make some tough decisions to end your seasons on a high note. And with that, if you have someone who is really becoming a waste of roster space, it's time to get rid of him. The longer you hang on, the lower your chances are of making the playoffs and winning your leagues. In that spirit, I'm doing away with the Reverse Jinx section just to...continue reading

Tyler Thornburg (RP, MIL) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues OWNED IN: 51% of Fleaflicker Leagues ANALYSIS: The trade deadline was certainly kind to Tyler Thornburg and all those who stand to gain from his success. This season the 27-year old reliever has a phenomenal line of 1.78 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, and 12 K/9. His 3.1 BB/9 is steady at its serviceable rate from last year and his 0.8 HR/9 in HR-friendly Miller Park is a vast improvement from his mark of 1.8 last season. In...continue reading

MLB Ready Prospects: Top 30 Fantasy Rankings for Impact Rookies (Week 22)

Welcome back RotoBallers. This will be last Top 30 fantasy prospect rankings columns before rosters expand, and will likely be one of the last article series formatted like this until the offseason. As I mentioned in the last article, there are some players who definitely have September value and most of these guys will be valuable to owners in some kind of format. Right now, I would really only say that the top six guys are going to have value in all leagues, but everyone on this list would have some value, even...continue reading

Raisel Iglesias (RP/SP, CIN) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ team leagues OWNED IN: 59% of Fleaflicker leagues ANALYSIS: Raisel Iglesias is a 26-year old Cuban import and it seems like no matter where the Reds put him, either in the rotation or the bullpen, he is destined to be successful. He started the season off by making five starts and had a 3.49 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 1.27 HR/9, 2.22 BB/9, and 9.2 K/9. After taking some time off to recover from...continue reading

Jim Johnson (RP, ATL) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in Deep Mixed Leagues, NL-Only Leagues OWNED IN: 45% Fleaflicker ANALYSIS: Veteran closer Jim Johnson has generated 56.8% ground balls this year. His 93.1 MPH two-seam fastball and 78.8 MPH curveball are getting the job done with about a strikeout per inning. Additionally, opponents are hitting just .239 against Johnson. The rebuild for the Braves and the consistent ground ball rates are encouraging reasons to claim the vet off the waiver wire.

Deeper Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 21 (National League)

Before we start, I'd like to apologize for putting Justin Bour on here a couple weeks ago - instead of coming off the DL, he gets transferred to the 60-day. Who knew? Just remember who told you to pick up Robbie Ray a week ago before he was trendy... Adam Ottavino (RP, COL) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in all leagues OWNED IN: 47% of Fleaflicker leagues ANALYSIS: At 30 years old and with just five career MLB saves, Adam Ottavino is far from being a household name out of the Rockies bullpen. Here is a little figure that will probably blow you away; since 2015, he has pitched 26.1 innings for the Rockies (16 IP this year). In that time Ottavino has an ERA of 0.00, WHIP of 0.68, 1.71 BB/9,...continue reading

David Phelps (SP/RP, MIA) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues OWNED IN: 37% of Fleaflicker Leagues EXPERT ANALYSIS: Still in need of rotation help for a playoff run after the Colin Rea fiasco, the Marlins looked to their own bullpen in David Phelps. Although he is yet to pitch past the sixth inning, Phelps has yielded just three earned runs in three starts so far. Most promising is the 17 K in 14.2 IP...continue reading

Raisel Iglesias (SP/RP, CIN) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues OWNED IN: 58% Fleaflicker ANALYSIS: Raisel Iglesias was one of the most — if not THE most — highly-anticipated breakout candidates for the 2016 season. When the 26-year-old returned from a two-month-long stint on the disabled list in late June, however, the Reds relegated him to the bullpen. But it’s not as though Iglesias had really been struggling. He lasted at least five innings in each of his five outings,...continue reading

Edwin Diaz (RP, SEA) - Waiver Wire Pickups

Baller Move: Add in all leagues Owned in: 69% of Fleaflicker leagues Analysis: Edwin Diaz has had a monster season, and he is finally getting proper recognition. So far in 2016 he has a 1.74 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, is allowing just 2.3 BB/9, and is striking batters out at a phenomenal rate of 16.8 K/9. The 22-year old recently was promoted to the Mariners closer spot over ...continue reading

Kelvin Herrera (RP, KC) - Waiver Wire Pickups

Baller Move: Add in all leagues Owned in: 67% of Fleaflicker leagues Analysis: Why does it take a big injury to Wade Davis for two-time All-Star Kelvin Herrera to get some love? Herrera has improved upon his already dominant relief game in 2016 and has been lights-out good. He has a 2.09 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, and 11.1 K/9 in an improvement from his 8.3 K/9 from last season. Most impressive, however, is...continue reading

Baller Move: Add in all leagues Owned in: 58% of Fleaflicker leagues Analysis: The Pirates are still winning, and Mark Melancon has been in Washington for a couple weeks. That means Tony Watson gets to cash in on all of the late inning, high leverage situations. The 2014 All-Star has a 2.79 ERA and 1.03 WHIP so far in 48.1 IP in the 2016 season. Watson had...continue reading

Adam Ottavino (RP, COL) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues OWNED IN: 43 percent of Fleaflicker leagues ANALYSIS: Adam Ottavino briefly served as the Rockies' closer last season before suffering a UCL tear. Fresh off Tommy John surgery, he's tossed 12 scoreless innings, striking out a batter per. With Carlos Estevez imploding multiple times this month, that was enough for Walt Weiss to put Ottavino back in the closer's chair. He...continue reading

Fernando Salas (RP, LAA) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in Deep Mixed Leagues, AL-Only Leagues OWNED IN: 6% Fleaflicker ANALYSIS: With Huston Street and Cam Bedrosian both sidelined, the Angels appear to be turning to Fernando Salas for the ninth inning. Tony Watson (SP, PIT) - Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues OWNED IN: 54% of Fleaflicker Leagues EXPERT ANALYSIS: 31 year old Tony Watson was not viewed as a closer-in-waiting, but with the surprise trade of Mark Melancon to Washington, he now takes over the job. Watson was a holds machine, registering 23 through the end of July. He carries a 2.58 ERA and 1.05 WHIP on the year, but has only allowed one ER to score in the past month. Watson...continue reading

BALLER MOVE: Add in All Leagues OWNED IN: 34 percent of Fleaflicker leagues ANALYSIS: In his first appearance as the new Padres closer, Brandon Maurer allowed a run on two hits but nailed down a save against the Yankees. Since then, he hasn't allowed a run and has only permitted five runners to reach base over a span of 12 innings. His strikeout rate is down during that time, but...continue reading

He now has the keys to the not-so-pleasant Target Field kingdom. The 32-year old has found new life this year for the despondent ...continue reading

Edwin Diaz (RP, SEA) - Waiver Wire Pickups

Baller Move: Add in all leagues Owned in: 3% of Fleaflicker leagues Analysis: The Mariners have a new face flirting with the closer role--strikeout machine Edwin Diaz. The #2 prospect in the Seattle organization has been fantastic this season. He has a 1.80 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, just 2.5 BB/9, and has been absolutely blowing opponents out of the water with a K/9 rate of 17.6 in 25 IP. Diaz started 2016 at Double-A Jackson and there he was also dominant with a 2.21 ERA, 0.96...continue reading

Carlos Estevez (RP, COL) - Waiver Wire Pickups

Baller Move: Add in all leagues Owned in: 48% of Fleaflicker leagues Analysis: Not only has Carlos Estevez managed to keep the Rockies' closer spot (which everyone was surprised he got in the first place) but he has been absolutely thriving in it. In total this season the 23-year old reliever has a 3.76 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, is allowing 4.0 BB/9, but is also getting plenty of missed swings at 10.1 K/9 as he is 38.1 IP into...continue reading

Cam Bedrosian (RP, LAA) - Waiver Wire Pickups

Baller Move: Add in 14+ team leagues Owned in: 11% of Fleaflicker leagues Analysis: The Angels are a mess, but at least they realized the mess to its true extent and dealt some pieces at the trade deadline.
