ANALYSIS: Garrett Cleavinger recorded his second save in four days for the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday, pitching a scoreless ninth inning to nail down the 7-5 victory over the Tigers. Cleavinger has been used as one of the team's closers ever since Pete Fairbanks went on the IL and has made the most of it. Now, with two saves on the season, Cleavinger has pitched to a 2.53 ERA, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and a 9:14 BB:K over 10 2/3 IP.

It was figured that all of Cleavinger, Jason Adam, and Colin Poche would figure into the closing mix. However, Adam was used in the seventh and eighth inning in this ballgame, while Poche blew the save opportunity on Tuesday, so perhaps Cleavinger is the most trusted of the bunch right now.
Cleavinger doesn't have any prior experience in the role, with the two saves in 2024 being the first two of his MLB career, but Fairbanks owners and teams in need of saves should consider picking up the southpaw until the incumbent returns from the IL. The 30-year-old is available in nearly all Yahoo leagues, so he's there for the taking.
