Jason Adam is a fantasy baseball waiver wire pickup for closers and saves in Week 9 (2024). Adam is a speculative free agent waiver wire add for saves leagues.

ANALYSIS: This past Monday, Jason Adam picked up his third save of the season after closer Pete Fairbanks was unavailable due to a cut on his finger. Adams' prior two came with Pete Fairbanks on the IL. So it seemed Adams' only chance for saves would be when Fairbanks is unavailable. Then on Wednesday, Fairbanks was used in a high-leverage non-save situation, opening the door for other relievers on Tampa Bay to garner save chances. Kevin Kelly and Garrett Cleavinger also picked up saves this past week.
It may be a fluid situation where any of them could get work in the ninth, depending on the matchup, but Adam may be the best bet. Kevin Kelly has a strong 17:1 K:BB, but 2023 was his rookie season, so he is a bit inexperienced. Garrett Cleavinger has been good, too, but might only come in if lefty hitters are coming up. Adam is that experienced right-handed arm with good numbers, including a 1.29 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, 16.7% SwStr%, and a 95th percentile Whiff% of 35.1%.

For managers looking for saves, Jason Adam can be had in 54% of Yahoo leagues and can help with strikeouts, WHIP, and ERA in between save opportunities. He's even more appealing in leagues where holds are valued.
