Is Jason Adam a good fantasy baseball waiver wire pickup for closers and saves? Analysis on Rays star as a free agent relief pitcher for saves on the waiver wire.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 10+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 34% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Tampa Bay Rays' reliever Jason Adam is having a pretty good season. He recently pitched a scoreless ninth inning against the New York Yankees, pitching in the closer role in a tied game, allowing his team to win the game in the 10th inning. With Rays' closer Pete Fairbanks struggling this season, and now being placed on the 15-day IL with a nerve related issue, its expected that Adam will become the new Rays closer.
This season, Adam has pitched 10.0 innings in 11 appearances and has an ERA of just 1.80. He has conceded four hits and one home run while recording eight strikeouts. In comparison, Fairbanks had an ERA of 9.00 in eight appearances, pitching a total of 8 innings.
#Rays Jason Adam asked to do some heavy lifting in 9th - gets Soto to fly out, strikes out Judge and gets Rizzo on a fly to deep right

Jason Adam is currently rostered in 34% of the Yahoo leagues and 14% of the ESPN leagues. Following Fairbanks' injury last year, he was named the team's closer and recorded 12 saves in 56 appearances with an ERA of 2.98.
He has started this season much better and is leaning primarily on his fastball (45.5% of total pitches). As mentioned above, Fairbanks’ injury is a cause for concern for the Rays. Picking up Adam will be a solid saves option for fantasy managers, as the 32-year-old reliever should be closing games for the Rays moving forward.
